After a postponement on Tuesday against Thomas College, the University of Maine baseball team was able to open up their home schedule at Mahaney Diamond in Orono on Wednesday evening in non-conference play against neighboring Division III opponent Husson University. Three Black Bears had at least two hits, and three homered as they opened that home slate with an 11-4 victory over the Eagles. BOSTON- Freshman forward Will Smith turned in his best game of the season on Saturday night, and at a great time for the #1 team in the country Boston College. Smith scored four times and had one assist, that included a pair of powerplay goals in the first period as the Eagles rolled past Boston University 6-2 in the 39th annual Men’s Hockey East Championship game at TD Garden. The Ohio State University Buckeyes used a 27-4 first half run, and would overpower the University of Maine 80-57 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio on Friday afternoon. #15 seed Maine had some leads early on in the first quarter, getting off to a hot start shooting. The America East Champion Maine Black Bears found out their destination and next opponent on Sunday night during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Selection Show. Maine (24-9) got a #15 seed is headed to Columbus, Ohio to take on #2 seeded Ohio out of the Big 10 Conference in the first round. The game will be played either Friday or Saturday with a time to be announced. ORONO- After a lopsided sweep at the hands of the University of New Hampshire in Durham about a month ago, Maine needed their best players to come though on Saturday night during their Hockey East quarterfinal at Alfond Arena. And Josh Nadeau and Bradly Nadeau did just that.
