I recently acquired a notebook with a I5 1135G7 and Iris Xe, and for now it has a dual boot between opensuse kde and windows 11.
On windows 11 i noticed that the performance suddenly increases when connecting the charger, on Kingdoms of Amalur the fps went from 25 to 40. But on Linux the performance stays the same, with or without the charger.
I'm not new to linux, but this is the first time i'm using it in a laptop, is this a power management issue or a package that isn't installed?

Just a bit of background.
I was originally running windows 10 with 256gb ssd, It was running fine. Issue started when I uprgade the ssd to 1tb, the OS became so slow. When I looked at the Task Manager the disk went to 100% usage. I've tried to tweak and fixed it but to no avail. I've installed a clean windows 10 and made sure to format the partition disks, it kinda worked for a day then the next day same issue 100% disk usage.
I tried installing debloated windows 10, Atlas OS. again worked for a day then the 100% disk usage again. Tried installing this windows like 4 times now. I thought to ..read more

Xwayland launched with -nolisten tcp -nolisten local I believe should prevent listening on the abstract socket @/tmp/.X11-unix/X0, but in my test it does anyway. Am I wrong that I think these args should work with Xwayland, or is there some reason this wouldn't work with a rootless instance running through kwin_wayland?
I wanted to run a wayland desktop where Xwayland does not create an abstract socket. The abstract socket lets any user on the computer connect to X11 unless you run everything in its own network namespace. In addition if programs need internet access a proxy would be needed wi ..read more

I have a Windows PC and am fairly new to Linux as I've only been using it for 3-ish months but I want to learn and install linux.
What should I do though? I'm conflicted on duel booting or using a flash drive, will there be problems if I duel boot?
Also should I do Ubuntu or Kali? I'm getting into cybersecurity and everywhere they use Kali, but Ubuntu I heard is beginner friendly.

I use gphoto2 to make my Canon DSLR show up as a webcam, it works great but only on Firefox.
I use this same command:
gphoto2 --stdout --capture-movie | ffmpeg -i - -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt yuv420p -f v4l2 /dev/video2
And firefox sees the camera as Dummy video device (0x0000), Zoom sees it too. but I could never get Chrome to recognize it, it's just never listed on there or any chromium based browsers like Brave.
I use PopOS, time and time again I tried to change some parameters to make Chrome accept or allow it but maybe it's just not meant to be.
What am I missing? I don't see anyone co ..read more

I’m trying to get into Linux and figured I’d start out by getting a dual boot going on my gaming PC alongside Windows 10. I want to slowly figure it out and move all my Linux-compatible games over. I’m not exactly super familiar with coding apart from simple loops (if/else, for, while, etc.) but I’m trying to learn.
So I started the other day by partitioning 50 GB of my main NVME drive for the OS (Linux Mint) and 200 GB of my SATA SSD for storage space but after installing I just can’t wrap my head around how the file system works. I know it’s different from Windows where you have letter driv ..read more

I accidentally remove python use command. I can't run yum. If I run, it gives error: -bash: /usr/bin/yum: /usr/bin/python: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

I plan on buying the Razer Naga V2, will I be able to remap the side button? I doubt I will be able to do it from Linux, but if I do it from Windows (ex: set mouse-boutton 1 to ctrl-alt-f1) will the mouse remember it in its memory so I can map "ctrl-alt-f1" in linux to an action?
Thanks
