I (27m) have my own pizza place, grew up in one and I live here too. I work around 70 hours a week and keep around 30k after all expenses / taxes every year. This is my third year and I currently have 50k saved up. My plan was to buy houses and rent them out, small houses prices that rent out for around 1500 cost around 200k where I live. Not sure what else I could invest in submitted by /u/BaboobikusMaximus [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Should I activate an old credit card I haven’t used?

If I activate an old credit card I never used, will that impact my score? I know opening multiple credit cards can negatively impact your score. In my case, I started it a couple years ago but never actually activated the card. Did this already impact my score, or will the impact happen when I activate the card if I choose to do it now? I currently have one credit card open i’ve been using since around the same time, and one more I opened up recently. I’ve kept up with payments on both cards. submitted by /u/Affectionate-Duck347 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have the option to stop working and spend time with my kids but don’t know if it’s wise.

I have the option to let my business pay for our lifestyle and I can go down to working 5-10 hours per week max. I’m 30 and am married with 4 little kids (under 8) so it’s tempting to spend all my time with them since we don’t get these years back. But I also want them to see the value of hard work and to know where their resources come from. Any advice to parents who may have had a similar option or just parents in general that are beyond these years? submitted by /u/oleramblinman14 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pretty much the title, my 65 old parent recently came into 600k after the sale of a family home. Unfortunately they aren’t financially literate at all and I’m trying to help make the money last/invest it well..but I’m in over my head. My parent has no retirement or any real significant savings and doesn’t even budget. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/Gasbullgator30 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi! I’m new to the group and hope I am posting in the proper place and follows the rules. I receive a fixed amount of money per month and will continue to for approximately the next 20 years. I have one kiddo and a college savings account for them. The unique situation is that I have a chronic illness with a wide range of prognoses. So, not really knowing what the future holds, I’m not certain what to do with the additional funds. I’ve been leaning heavy into college savings so far for the kiddo who is 9. I want my kiddo to be set up as much as possible. Should I be looking at any other savin ..read more

This is a lot of info, but hopefully it can help someone help me figure things out. On top of already being depressed about losing my mom and stressed about how the hospice care is going so far, I am also stressed about how to handle her finances while she is still alive and what to do after she passes… She has life insurance policies on herself, my father, and my brother that have monthly premiums that need to be paid. I am listed as the beneficiary on her policy and my brother’s policy. So far, I have located her life insurance policy and my brother’s, policy, but I have not found any info ..read more

Met with a money manager yesterday. Can I get some feedback on what he suggested I do with my assets?

Hi all. I wanted to get some feedback about a recent meeting I had with a money manager who works for one of the large brokerage firms where I have an account. For context, I am in my mid-30s and I am essentially an investing/finance novice though I've read a bit (but fair warning I may use some terms incorrectly). I have a retirement portfolio worth $400K and another portfolio of miscellaneous investments worth $200K. The money manager pitched a management plan for my retirement fund where I would pay his firm an annual fee of 1.7% the value of the account in exchange for management services ..read more

Anyone familiar with CALSTRS (California Teacher Retirement)

I am probably 6-9 years from retirement. I have done a poor job of saving for it so my teachers pension is about the extent of it. I recently started a Roth and currently have about 10k in it. Plan to max it every year going forward. The thing is, I have no idea what I am doing. I lost about 200 in a couple weeks when I choose my allocation on Vanguard and then changed everything to VTI. I have looked in about 2 weeks since because I know it's not smart to watch it everyday. CALSTRS offers a Pension2 program that is basically managed Roths (or others). I am thinking about taking all the money ..read more
