BOISE – Emma Loyim and Adriana Popp have both never been to Arkansas. When asked what they know about The Natural State, the Boise State gymnasts responded with “Arkansas Razorbacks” and that it’s probably “humid.” They and the rest of the Boise State gymnastics team will get to experience it all firsthand in nine days. The Broncos were one of 36 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Regional Championships for the 16th consecutive season Monday morning. The Blue and Orange will compete in the Fayetteville Regional inside the Bud Walton Arena starting on April 3. “We obviously wanted to kee ..read more

Boise State comes up just short – again – in NCAA Tournament loss to Colorado

DAYTON, Ohio – Boise State missed 21 layups, made just 2 of 18 shots from 3-point range and shot 34.3 percent overall on Wednesday night in their First Four matchup with Colorado at UD Arena. Amazing the Broncos still almost won. Boise State, and in particular three of its stars, picked the worst game for their roughest outing of the season in a 60-53 loss. Max Rice and O’Mar Stanley each went 1 for 9 from the field and Tyson Degenhart was just 3 of 10 for the Broncos, who missed several point-blank shots and tip-ins right at the basket on a frustrating night that ended just like program’s pre ..read more

Boise State hopes fast start can lead to historic finish in First Four matchup with Colorado

DAYTON, Ohio – Tyson Degenhart knows one thing that has to change if Boise State plans to make history Wednesday night with its first NCAA Tournament win in school history.  The Broncos have to start faster. In each of Boise State’s NCAA Tournament games the past two seasons the Broncos fell behind early and were unable to complete comebacks. “We dug ourselves a 19-point hole against Memphis (two years ago) and we played really well in the second half, but we just couldn’t dig ourselves out of it,” Degenhart said. “It’s really important to keep the game close and take an early lead.” Two ..read more

Boise State to face trio of NBA prospects in First Four matchup with Colorado

Boise State coach Leon Rice didn’t need to do much research when he saw the Broncos were matched up with Colorado in the First Four in Dayton on Wednesday night.  Rice and Colorado coach Tad Boyle have been close friends for two-plus decades and coached together with Team USA in each off the past two summers. Boise State’s 14th-year coach said he’s already watched almost every game the Buffaloes have played this season. “I’m pretty familiar with Colorado,” Rice said. “Tad is one of my best friends in the business and in the world.” Colorado went 24-10 overall and 13-7 in the Pac-12 and f ..read more

Boise State surprisingly heads to First Four in Dayton against Colorado

What was expected to be a celebration on Sunday evening turned into a puzzled, frustrating, stunned moment that none saw coming. No, the Boise State men’s basketball team didn’t get left out of the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos are back in the Big Dance for the third straight season for the first time in program history. That’s the good news. The unexpected part? The Broncos were one of the last four teams in the tournament and will head to Dayton to play Colorado in the First Four on Wednesday. “A little surprised to be honest,” Boise State coach Leon Rice said. “I don’t think anyone had us p ..read more

Boise State falls victim to motivated New Mexico squad in 76-66 loss in Mountain West quarterfinals
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball

LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico Lobos played like a team fighting for its NCAA Tournament lives Thursday night at Thomas and Mack Center. They were hungrier. They had more energy. They seemed to want it more. Boise State, meanwhile, started slow and never really recovered. The Broncos looked out of sync for much of the game, struggled to get the ball inside and had their worst shooting night of the season. Frankly, the final score could have been even worse. The Broncos got 23 points and 12 rebounds from Tyson Degenhart but suffered another first round loss in the Mountain West Tournament in a 76-6 ..read more

Prater: Boise State gambles on pre-game approach, loses its chips in Vegas
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball

LAS VEGAS – One thing we learned about Boise State basketball Thursday night. The Broncos are better with a chip on their shoulder. Chips are important in Vegas – poker chips, casino chips … shoulder chips when playing against motivated opponents in the Mountain West Tournament. Boise State has played with attitude, swagger and a dare-to-beat us attitude for most of this season. Mental toughness serves this group of coaches and players well – this time, New Mexico turned its own tough approach into a 76-66 quarterfinal victory at Thomas & Mack Center. Mike Prater Boise State didn’t reall ..read more

No rest for the weary: Boise State back on the road for huge week starting Tuesday at Colorado State
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball

Boise State coach Leon Rice knows his players could use some days off – and he’s promised them they are coming. It just can’t be until next week. The Broncos, who have played nine consecutive games without more than three days in-between them, will finally enjoy a bye in the schedule next week. But first comes maybe the most important week of the season when the Broncos play at Colorado State on Tuesday and at Utah State on Saturday. Rice has increased bench minutes in recent games to fight fatigue and has done what he can in practice to keep players fresh for the stretch run. He’s hoping the ..read more

Boise State moves back into first place tie with ‘remarkable’ 94-56 blowout win over Air Force
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball

Six weeks from now the Boise State men’s basketball team might look back and call this the biggest week of the season.  Although they hope to say the same thing about next week. A road win at The Pit on Wednesday night and a 38-point blowout win on Saturday gave the Broncos a massive boost to the computer metrics and moved them back into a first place tie with Utah State at the midway point of the conference season.  Not a bad week.  Next week Boise State plays maybe its toughest week of the season with a Tuesday road game at Colorado State and a Saturday road game at Utah State ..read more
