Fresno State is one of five public colleges and universities receiving funding from the Mellon Foundation to establish paid internship programs for humanities majors.  With the funding, Fresno State’s College of Arts and Humanities will design, implement and scale an internship program for its humanities majors that allows them to put theories learned during coursework into practice. Fresno State’s annual Vintage Days spring festival celebrates 50 years April 19 through 21, offering family-friendly fun with longtime traditions dating back to 1975, as well as new, modern twists. The free, public event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.  The three-day festival is Fresno State’s largest student-planned celebration that is expected to attract more than 50,000 people. English professor awarded Guggenheim Fellowship

Author and Fresno State professor Mai Der Vang was honored April 11 as the recipient of a 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship. Vang is one of this year’s 188 Guggenheim Fellows – including nine poets – from across North America, chosen from a pool of nearly 3,000 applicants. The fellowships, awarded annually since 1925, are bestowed upon distinguished individuals and culture creators working across disciplines for their “prior career achievement and exceptional promise.” The fellowship includes a monetary stipend “to pursue independent work at the highest level, under the freest possible conditions.” V ..read more

The Fresno State Winery will host its biggest event of the semester, the Taste of Spring, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, on the lawn next to the Vincent E. Petrucci Viticulture Building (2360 E. Dr. Katsuyo Howard was a counselor, Japanese language teacher and student affairs professional who connected with Fresno State’s early southeast Asian student population.  Dr. Franklin Ng was a historian and Asian studies expert who was hired to coordinate Fresno State’s ethnic studies program and taught the only two Asian studies courses for years.
