Mine-craft the Prequel: Talks and Photo Workshop Events
The 2023-24 Nottingham Trent University funded coalmining heritage project, ‘Mine-craft the Prequel: The Photographic Story of East Midlands Coal’ is running several community photo workshop events during February, March and April 2024.

Brinsley Colliery tandem headstocks demolished
The iconic wooden tandem headstocks at the Brinsley Headstocks site were demolished during the week commencing 11th December 2023. It is thought they were the only remaining wooden tandem headstocks in Britain. They had been fenced off earlier in 2023 due safety concerns following its annual inspection.

Snibston Colliery: 40th anniversary of closure
Snibston Colliery was situated near the north-west edge of the mining town of Coalville, Leicestershire, and was known locally as ‘Snibby’. The colliery was developed in the early 1830s by George Stephenson, the famous railway engineer, along with his son Robert. About the Event: Pleasley Pit Trust presents an evening of coalmining songs and pit-poetry as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Pleasley Colliery. The music will be provided by Al Rate, Johnny Kedleston and former local miners, Rob Harley and Terry Faulkner with pit poetry readings by Kath Batholomew and former miners, Roger Cornish and David Amos.
