Fresno’s Christmas Tree Lane Brings Back Walk Nights!

Walk Night pic from Christmas Tree Lane I am not going to question it, I will just accept it. The rumors are true. Organizers of Fresno’s Christmas Tree Lane have brought back ‘walk nights’. This is when they do not let traffic go down Old Van Ness and they let people do something totally strange… walk in Fresno. Last year they implied Walk Nights would never come back, but here we are. As per tradition, there are two walk nights: Saturday, December 2nd. Tuesday, December 12th. Christmas Tree Lane starts Saturday (Dec 2nd) and is open every night thru December 25th. The Lane opens every nig ..read more

In Memoriam: Fosters Freeze at Palm & Bullard

In case you didn’t know, the “Bullard” Fosters Freeze on Palm (if you’re reading this after August 31st) is now closed. It’s being forced to make way for a Starbucks. Thanks for all the food and memories since the 1980s (for me anyway). I shall miss your fries. Corndogs. Milkshakes. But most of all, my evening runs with my daughter to get a Twister and a hot fudge sundae (no nuts), when we were a little bored. Goodbye, old girl ..read more

5 Things I Will Do at Fresyes Fest [2023]

(Pic stolen from Fresno Street Eats) We can debate what our biggest festivals are some other time. But it might be Fresyes Fest. Biggest or not, I PLAN on going (I don’t get out much, so I am cautious with my optimism of leaving the house for something). Fresyes Fes is this Saturday. It is centered around the Brewery District. Streets will be blocked. Beer will be drank. Music will be played. Tacos will be eaten. Here are five things I plan to do, maybe you can to: Pretend Not to See People I Can’t Remember the Names Of (Pic stolen from Fresyes Fest page) There will be people that you’ll see a ..read more

The Herndon & Marks Save Mart Is A Timecapsule

Produce Department at the Herndon & Marks Save Mart I feel like Save Mart kinda forgot they have a store at Herndon & Marks. I mean, that lighting in the produce section is cool. And it ain’t new. You walk in the store and it’s like “Wait. Where am I? What year is this? Am I Marty McFly?” Look at this freezer case: You don’t see freezer coffins like that much anymore. The Liquor Department sign and then beer doors are priceless: Those handles are perfection. Oh gosh, look at that dairy section: Then there is my favorite, the meat/deli counter sign: I simply appreciate that this Sav ..read more

I Like What They Did With That: Little Leaf Tea‘s Sign

Creative use of the Little Leaf Tea sign Last month-ish, Little Leaf Tea at Palm & Bullard, moved next door into their bar area so they could make room for Kuppa Joy to move into their old space. I like how they moved over their sign to the front of their window. Good re-use idea and it looks cool. They have 1/3 of the bar now their tea area and left the rest of the bar alone. The bar area of Little Leaf The tea is still good and you get it just as quick (maybe even a little quicker) than you did before. As far as the bar, they still have a cozy neighborhood bar vibe – a good spot for an a ..read more

The Struggle Of A Fresnan

I can get super bummed about not posting here. Long spans of time can go by and I don’t post and I feel shitty and then I get a few in there and feel better about myself. The thing I just realized and it’s why I sat down to post, I am too fucking old to blog about Fresno in the way I wish I could. The old days. Work. Age. Life. They all keep me from running around the Tower or Downtown or some thing at Fresno State, with any kind of regularity. So, I cannot be what I want, what the hell do I do? There are only so many Save Mart & Whole Foods posts I can do (grocery stores are my number one ..read more

Fresno vs. Portland: Traffic Edition

Portland is not fun to drive in Portland traffic sucks tailpipe. The above screenshot was taken at 2:50 PM on a random Wednesday. That is a lot of red for Wednesday afternoon. Yeah I know, Portland has more people than Fresno. This is not a complete match of a comparison. This is about the general day-to-day of what you have to deal with living in Portland vs. a Fresno. So yes, there are more people in Portland. But unlike Fresno, Portland has light-rail throughout the city, more infill, one of THE best biking infrastructures and it’s friendly to walkers. Yet, red everywhere on the map at 2:51 ..read more

The Galaxy’s Littlest Free Library Noticed this one today. Located at W. McKinley & N. Vagedes, (1600 block). A good use of what was probably an old Fresno Bee newspaper machine. Next time I remember I will have to bring a couple Star Wars books with me. More info on these kind of things can be found at littlefreelibrary.org ..read more
