A couple of weeks ago the whole PDR team had the pleasure of visiting the Greenhouse Fabrics facility in High Point, NC.  We have worked with them for years, using their fabrics on countless projects.  Up until our visit, our relationships with most of the staff were purely through phone and email.  It was so nice to finally meet the whole crew in person, especially our fabric guru, Lisa!  One of my favorite aspects of Greenhouse is that they are a family-run business.  Their story is captivating and one that resonates well with me.  Arnold Bjork started the bus ..read more

February is the month of love.  Many people got engaged on Valentine’s day and are now planning a wedding and a life together with their fiancé.  I first shared this article in Bridal Bliss magazine back in 2017.  The ideas still ring true, so I thought it would be helpful to share with you and those you know who are in this stage of their life. First comes love…then comes marriage…then comes moving into a new house together. It’s an exciting adventure to outfit your new space with your spouse. It’s also a great opportunity to create a place that reflects you both.  That ..read more

We are so close to completely dressing your home.  Art and window treatments are the final components to include.  This week's post is all about artwork (we will address window treatments next month). People become the most paralyzed when it comes to artwork. They've done all this work to assemble the rest of the room, and now they freeze up with fear about putting a nail in the wall. Don’t let this be you! When it comes to artwork, select pieces that catch your eye and lead you around the room. Think about what has meaning to you, what makes you feel comfortable and what might st ..read more

We started walking through the concept of how to dress your home back in October.  If you're anything like me, you may have already forgotten what we've talked about to date.  If you're not, then this recap is just for my benefit (ha!).  So far we have addressed: - your budget - your timeline -how you use the space -patterns and colors you like -how to draw a space plan (and hopefully you've actually drawn one!) -the ways area rugs can help or hinder your look -more about paint than you probably cared to know Today, let's pick up where we left off.  Let's get lost in the ..read more

photo: PDR Interiors With all this talk about trends over the past few weeks- is your head swimming?  Well, take a breather.  Just because something is on trend, doesn’t mean you need to find a way to incorporate it into your home.  Observe trends as a form of inspiration and as a connection to the world around you.  You can have an appreciation for something without having to buy it. With your clothing- you know what fits your body and what styles you are drawn to, so you buy items that work for you.  Do the same thing for your home- if you’re all about Fre ..read more

2019 Trends- Florals

Florals are HUGE right now…literally and figuratively.  Floral patterns are popping up in everything from apparel to home decor.  The most popular florals seem to be the bold, oversized options- the antithesis of the Laura Ashley florals from the 90s. Definitely a statement pattern. Watercolor black and red floral pillows make a statement on this sectional. photo: PDR Interiors I am not personally a floral person when it comes to my clothes. I can admire and appreciate floral apparel on other people, I just think I don’t look very good in them.  I prefer to stick to ..read more

2019 Trends- geometric patterns

I am a lover of geometric patterns.  I think I would have been very happy growing up in the 70s -minus some of the color combos.  I think what draws me to these types of patterns is that they possess an orderly pattern and typically have clean lines.  Those who know me well know that orderly and clean are two characteristics that will win me over every time.  That’s just my personal preference. For those who are unsure about geometrics, here are some additional positive characteristics- -They are versatile.  Geometric patterns can be found in area rugs, upholstery fa ..read more

--> I was recently asked to comment on design trends for 2019 for a magazine article.  Hollywood Regency is a big one!  Are you wondering what on earth I mean when I say “Hollywood Regency”??  You’re not alone.  It’s a term used to describe a certain design aesthetic.  most people can recognize the style, but don't know the name to attach to it.  Easily summed up it is simply old Hollywood glam.  Typically Hollywood Regency style includes these types of elements: -velvet upholstery When velvet is used on a tailored piece of furniture with clean line ..read more

Paint Sheen- the basics

--> Once you’ve finalized your wall color, please take a moment to consider sheen OR finish.  This is a component that often gets overlooked. Here is the list of your sheen options and their pros/cons: 1.     Flat- This is the sheen I specify the least.  It has no sheen to it which is effective in camouflaging any flaws within the walls (that's why it is a favorite of builders).  The downside is that it does not clean easily.  If your household has children, pets, or generally gets a lot of wear and tear, avoid this finish option except for on ceilin ..read more

How to Choose a Wall Color

--> I love color!  I really do.  It’s easy to get carried away with it, if not careful.  I enjoy vibrant hues but also muted earth tones. Every color has it’s place.  When it comes to choosing your color palette, the rug really should be your guide.  You don’t want everything in the space to be perfectly matched, but everything should work together to create a visually pleasing palette.  There are a few ways to accomplish this: 1.     Pull the wall color directly from your rug.  Choose a secondary or tertiary color from the rug to use ..read more
