Like me, you’ve probably heard: “Do what you love, and the money will follow!” Hogwash. Personally, I love lying on the beach, but unless I start looking like a supermodel, there’s not much chance of me getting paid for it. What we do get paid for is working like expert professionals. Which, as it were, is what we happen to be. YOUR TAXES. We have you covered. But that sound you hear in the background is the clock ticking, and before you hit the very expensive “easy button” of software (which, as I’ve said before is so “easy” that there are armies of underpaid, disinterested CPA’s contracted ..read more

Listen, I know how hard it is to move from one tax professional to another. Which is why I would like to take a minute here to address YOU, if you are someone who hasn’t yet made the decision to use our services. After all, we’ve helped many Arlington, TX taxpayers “make the switch” over to us for tax filing, year after year. And I know that you’ve probably established a rhythm with your current provider (even if it’s not a “good” rhythm), and that you could dread the prospect of having to “teach” a new tax accountant about your finances and goals. Which is why this strategy note would be for ..read more

… except, well … when they aren’t. Or when they have a question. Or when they have to deal directly with the IRS (yikes). Or when they have any kind of complications in their return. Or … I could go on, but you get the point. The Super Bowl is behind us (congrats KC and coach Andy Reid), which means that the biggest ADVERTISING event of the year is also behind us. One of my favorites was the MC Hammer “Can’t Touch This” Cheetos ad, but I’m also kind of a throwback, so, there it is. And, of course, you see the big brand tax softwares pouring millions into their ads for the game, as usual. (Mak ..read more

This is the week the real work begins. The IRS started electronically accepting returns on Monday (the 27th), and our offices have already been hopping. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s a GREAT idea, this year of all years, to get a jump on your taxes. I won’t rehash all the reasons, because some Arlington, TX people are still waiting on a bunch of paperwork. We get that. But did you know that we can still start the process for you, even without all of your paperwork? Shoot me an email through the email link at the top of the page if that interests you, or call us: (817) 591-1610 Now here’s the ..read more

The IRS is set to begin receiving tax returns on the 27th. That means, it’s about to get VERY busy around here. Which is exactly how we like it. We’ve been preparing since the summer for this year’s tax return process, integrating all of the nuggets we’ve been unearthing within the “new” (as of last year) tax code that we now operate under, and we are pretty excited about putting our knowledge to work on behalf of our clients. So, again: there are many good reasons to get in here as early as possible. I covered them last week, but briefly: Get your (potential) refund sooner Peace-of-mind to g ..read more

Yes, here I am again — and yes, I know the W-2’s haven’t arrived, and you might not have begun to really think about little ol’ Fred Buehrer and your taxes yet. But today I want to offer you some reasons why … well, you should. In fact, there are LOTS of good reasons. For instance: get your refund sooner. But not everyone listens. That’s ok ..read more

Congress has been busy. They’re home for the holidays, but before they left, they passed a flurry of bills that you might be interested in. Oh, and yes … the House impeached the President. There is also that. I make no comment about that, but I DID want you to see these provisions that had been set to expire (but which are now extended into the 2019 tax year — and in some cases retroactively “extended” so that they would apply to 2018). Specifically, they extended… The ability to exclude from gross income the amount of discharged debt in connection with the reworking of a mortgage on your pri ..read more
