Manchester Airport has officially opened a new-look memorial garden as part of its commemorations of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The memorial garden, which is located between Terminal One and the Olympic House office building, has been given a £15,000 renovation over the past few months – with the addition of a Spitfire statue, picnic benches, and a poppy garden, which will be in full bloom by late summer. A stunning timelapse video shows the moment that a colossal 216-ton, two-storey link bridge is delicately manoeuvred into place at Manchester Airport’s Terminal Two, as work continues apace on a £1.3bn programme to transform and modernise the terminal. The bridge will connect the existing terminal building to a new ‘pier’ currently under construction, which will offer extra aircraft gates, stands and seating. A range of charities and not-for-profit groups across Greater Manchester and Cheshire are celebrating after receiving funding for their latest projects, following a meeting of Manchester Airport’s Community Trust Fund. Those set to receive an injection of up to £3,000 in cash include a local cricket club, a girlguiding group and a Search and Rescue team – with 16 beneficiaries in total.
