I'm looking at purchasing a 1988 car and I'm not clear on whether a safety inspection would be required for it. The NCDOT website says that vehicles 30+ years old are exempt but just beneath that it talks about antique vehicles and the antique license plates. I'm unsure if the exemption requires that the car qualify for the antique vehicle license plate or not - which mine wouldn't qualify for, since I intend to drive it around town for personal use.
