Rockies flight to Toronto under investigation by FAA The Colorado Rockies have landed United Airlines in some hot water after a video went viral from their recent trip to Toronto. The video showed assistant-hitting coach Hensley Meulens in the cockpit of the plane, in the pilot’s seat mid-flight. The Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines have now opened an investigation into the incident.  Fellow assistant-hitting coach Andy González also walked into the cockpit when Meulens joked “I’m gonna land the plane tonight.” Meulens would make gestures toward a button on the aircraft ..read more

Justin Turner has been the clutch veteran hitter that the Blue Jays have needed this season
BlueJaysNation

The quantification of clutch hitting has bamboozled the statistic community for years. Some players just are clutch and numbers can’t explain why. Whatever DNA strand the clutch gene exists in, Justin Turner certainly has it. Amid a Blue Jays batting order that’s struggling once again to hit in big spots, Turner is the exception. The 39-year-old DH has brought a lot to the Toronto lineup, but nothing is more important than his ability to come up clutch. For a second season in a row, the Blue Jays have come out of the gate collectively anemic in big spots. In the first half of last season, the ..read more

Blue Jays coaches, players in awe of Yimi García’s early-season dominance: ‘There’s no better bullpen arm in the big leagues right now’
BlueJaysNation
by Thomas Hall

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi García is in his dominant era. Fans, players, coaches and executives alike have been captivated by García’s remarkable start to the 2024 season, which includes a 1.04 ERA and 2.51 FIP with a 34.5-per-cent strikeout-to-walk rate difference across eight relief appearances. He’s also 2-for-2 in save situations thus far, as he helped fill a massive void at the back end of the bullpen during Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson’s IL stints. Of the 29 batters García has faced, only three have reached base safely, two via hits — including a home run — and the ot ..read more

The top prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays system has landed on the Injured List in the minor leagues. According to the team’s transaction page, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons have placed left-handed pitcher Ricky Tiedemann on the seven-day Injured List. The type of injury and how long Tiedemann is expected to be out are currently unknown. Injuries have unfortunately gotten in the way of the young lefty’s progression as a prospect. Selected by the Blue Jays out of Junior College in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Tiedemann immediately made a name for himself in his first professional season ..read more

Edwin Encarnacion providing mentorship and guidance to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has had a slow start to the year — his OPS is .715 entering Thursday — but he continues to practice good habits thanks to a former Blue Jays slugger. 16-year veteran Edwin Encarnacion is a special assistant to baseball operations, a position he’s held since the beginning of last season. The Blue Jays hope that his continued relationship with players like Guerrero will only help the team moving forward. Did you know Edwin Encarnaçion hit 424 home runs in his MLB career? That’s impressive. And somewhat under-the-radar. He’s closer to Carlos Delgado (473) and Fred McGriff ..read more

An Early Review of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Hitting
BlueJaysNation
by Bob Ritchie

After April 17’s loss to the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays were 19 games into the 2024 season with a 10-9 record. From a hitting perspective, this season has been a roller coaster. The ride has ranged from the high of scoring nine runs to close out the Tampa series to the low of Houston’s Ronel Blanco’s no-hitter. Furthermore, after the ten-game road trip that opened the 2024 campaign, Toronto’s 87 wRC+ was tied for MLB’s 19th-highest score. Unsurprisingly, many MLB observers expressed dissatisfaction with Toronto’s batters and management. The purpose of this article is to review Tor ..read more

The Toronto Blue Jays, Tipping Pitches, and Artificial Intelligence

In a recent broadcast, Michael Kay, a New York Yankee announcer, wondered aloud how the Jays managed to improve so much from their first series in The Bronx a couple of weeks ago to the series in Toronto that just finished. “You know what’s curious to me, though? We just saw the Blue Jays in The Bronx, and what we watched was a completely different team than the one we’ve seen here in Toronto. The one in New York did not foul off the amount of pitches this team does — it’s like it’s a different team in this ballpark. Now, home field advantage, there is something to that, but why would it mani ..read more
