Welcome back to another edition of the Betway Bets of the Day! The Bets of the Day are brought to you by NHL odds site Betway! Our first bet of the day is on Filip Forsberg to be an anytime goal scorer, with odds at +100. Forsberg is the Nashville Predators’ all-time leader in playoff goals and points, and was relatively quiet in game one against the Vancouver Canucks, with one assist and three shots on goal. I don’t think that will last long, as Forsberg was two goals shy of his first 50-goal campaign this season. The Canucks will be without Thatcher Demko tonight, and pos ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers will be one of nearly a dozen teams who will carry salary cap overages into the 2024-25 season. As confirmed by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli and CapFriendly, the Oilers themselves will carry the largest overage, up to $3.45-million. That could rise more, however, as Corey Perry can earn an additional $50,000 each for the Oilers reaching the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals. The bulk of the Oilers’ overage comes from Connor Brown’s contract. The winger signed a one-year deal that accounted for $775,000 against the salary cap, but had a performance b ..read more

Do you remember that scene from the movie Titanic where an elderly Rose says the line, “It’s been 84 years?” Now take that, apply it to Adam Henrique, and change 84 years to 4,333 days. That’s how long it had been since he scored his last playoff goal before he tickled twine Monday night against the L.A. Kings in the Oilers’ 7-4 win. His goal was a big one for the Oilers, coming at the 9:05 mark of the first period. Connor McDavid carried the puck into the offensive zone, firing a shot that rung around the boards to Evan Bouchard. He played the puck to Zach Hyman, who skated to the blueline dr ..read more

Edmonton Oilers vs. L.A. Kings Game 1: A Tactical Review
OilersNation | Edmonton Oilers Community Blog
by Bruce Curlock

Coming into the series, most commentators, including this one talked a lot about the Kings vaunted 1-3-1 neutral zone forecheck. It was certainly on display in game one of the series especially early on. Here is a clip displaying it in its most effective form. However, this tactic didn’t have much overall impact on the game. Indeed, the Oilers made it relatively unimportant within ten minutes of the opening puck drop. In part because the Oilers were very good at breaking it down, but more importantly, because they got out to a 2-0 lead. How did the Oilers do that? Not by beating the neutral z ..read more

Beyond the Boxscore: Connor McDavid leads charge in Oilers win over Kings

The Edmonton Oilers came to play from the moment the puck was dropped in an overwhelming 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings Monday night. The Oilers used their speed to maintain a possession advantage over the Kings all night, constantly pinning them down as they laid on the attack. The Kings are a team that – in order to get their wins – needs to score early and then defend well. In falling behind as early as they did, and by as much as they did, they had to play a looser game to try and spring some offence. It worked for a little bit, with the Kings getting two goals in the second, but i ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers went full steam ahead against the Los Angeles Kings last night in Game 1. The physical tone was set early, along with an endless wave of attack by the home team. The Kings struggled to find their feet for large portions of the game, with their last two goals gifted by unfortunate mistakes from Darnell Nurse and Cody Ceci. The playoff fever was palpable both inside and outside Rogers Place. The city was buzzing, and even Klim Kostin, a hero from last year’s playoffs, couldn’t resist the excitement. Kostin, who was a fan favourite during his time in Edmonton, was spotted amon ..read more
