Straight From the Heart
LA Dodger Talk

As many of you know, I had a cardioversion in October for A-Fib. A cardioversion is a procedure used to return an abnormal heartbeat to a normal rhythm. This procedure is used when the heart is beating very fast or irregularly. Mine does not beat fast… just irregular. The cardioversion worked… for six months, and about three weeks ago, it reverted back to Atrial Fibrillation. Since that day, every day, I have been getting more and more tired. It sucks, and I get winded just walking a few short stops. I am scheduled to have an ablation at Cleveland Clinic on August 30th, but that is four d ..read more

Dispense With the Reliever Speculation
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons
1d ago
The Dodger starters are 11th in MLB ERA (3.68), while the relievers are 12th (3.64). Overall, the Dodgers rank 10th in MLB Team ERA (3.66). That has prompted much speculation by fans as to the Dodgers needing to trade for bullpen help. As usual, many fans have sight but lack vision. All over the blogosphere, some Dodger fans suggest that the Dodgers need a closer as Evan Phillips is 8-8 in save opportunities, and his 0.71 ERA is not good enough. They see a shiny object and want that… “and they want it now!” Silliness is what it is. We go through this every year. Fans write ad nauseum about the ..read more

I am sick of this…

I don’t mean to make this your problem… it’s my problem, and I can solve it by just shutting down this site… which I may do… again! I don’t need this shit! I have assholes like Eric Hinterleitrer, Hondo, and Blind Joe Death (aka Original Dodgerman and about 15 other monikers) who are stalking me, and why? You will have to ask them, as their heads are so far up their asses that they are legally blind, but other than that, they are rabid dogs coming after me. I have reported this to the FBI Cybercrimes Unit, but I do not live in fear. I have a great life and I do not need this. I publish this b ..read more

Tyler Glasnow is Headed for a Cy Young
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons

Tyler Glasnow was masterful over the first six innings and appeared to lose it in the seventh inning, ultimately coming out in some kind of pain. He said the cramping was in his right calf and some in his hand. It was evidently related to dehydration. He said he’s dealt with this before but didn’t realize how humid it was going to be inside the dome today. OK – Hopefully that is all. Glasnow has a 5-1 record, 2.72 ERA, and leads MLB in IP (43) and Ks (53). He’s headed for a Cy Young. What a horse! "The fastball was probably the best it's been all year. I was just a lot more behind it, a lot ..read more

Nobody hit (much), but everybody pitched!
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons

Mookie, Freddie, and Kike each had two hits. Mookie is smoking hot. Freddie is back over .300, and Kike is heating up. In his last 7 games, Kike is hitting .294 and appears to be in a platoon with Max Muncy. Pages and Outman platoon in CF, except when Pages play RF, and Lux and Rojas are in a platoon at 2B/SS. Many of you don’t like platoons and blame it on Doc when, in reality, this is what the front office wants to do. Muncy, Lux, and Outman all have trouble with LHP, so why not platoon? Teoscar is hitting .258 against LHP and .254 against RHP. James Outman is slumping… PERIOD! He is hitting ..read more

Everyone Hits, or Nobody Hits
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons

Of course, that is a generalization that is not always true, but it is true enough of the time that I am concerned. Last night, the Dodgers scored 11 runs on 20 hits. Betts and Smith had 4 hits each, while Ohtani and Pages had 3 each. Muncy and Lux had two each. It was quite an offensive explosion, but I question why. Why is it frequently feast or famine? This does not seem normal to me. Is it Robert Van Socyoc’s methods that are at the root of the problem? Should the Dodgers’ failures at situational hitting rest squarely upon his shoulders? One has to at least consider that, but you also have ..read more

Those Who Cannot See
LA Dodger Talk

Singer Ray Stevens is given credit for writing the phrase “There is none so blind as he who will not see” in a line from the song “Everything Is Beautiful” which was released in 1970. I actually think someone said it long before Crazy Ray. Now, I am not proclaiming that everything is beautiful in Dodgertown, but it is looking better. Houston Mitchell said it best: My name is Houston Mitchell, and I can’t believe some people are already giving up on the Dodgers. In the previous newsletter, there were four polls designed to get a sense of how a majority of readers (there are enough r ..read more

Don’t Write Off Walker Buehler Just Yet
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons
1w ago
A lot of Dodger Fans are writing off Walker Buehler because the velocity of his four-seamer topped out at 95.9 MPH in his last start and probably averaged 94 MPH. They remember the Walker Buehler (or is it “misremember”?) who threw 99-100 MPH and walked on water, but of course, that isn’t true. After his Rookie Year, Walker rarely threw over 97 MPH. Yes, early in his career, he could hit 98+, but that was not often. According to Baseball Savant, here are the facts on the average MPH of his four-seam fastball: 2017 – 98.2 MPH 2018 – 96.2 MPH 2019 – 96.5MPH 2020 – 96.8 MPH 2021 – 95.3 MPH 2022 ..read more

A Black Cloud Hanging Over Their Heads
LA Dodger Talk
by Mark Timmons
1w ago
Do you remember Linus, the character in Charlie Brown who always had a black cloud hanging over his head? That feels like the Dodgers right about now. We might as well listen to a little Meghan Trainor… It’s pretty obvious that MLB hitters are looking to hit Yamamoto’s first pitch, and if not the first pitch, they are looking for certain parts of “The Zone” for a pitch. Yoshi was not bad last night, but he wasn’t good, and I think it was totally pitch selection and location. He threw 99 pitches, and 72 were strikes. Sometimes, you don’t want to throw as many strikes. Hitting against Yamamoto ..read more

OKC has lost two games back-to-back, and Miguel Vargas was not in OKC’s lineup for a second consecutive day, but it was for a very good reason. He took his U.S. citizenship test and passed. He is no longer a Cuban. He is now an American. BTW, is this the only country you go to and become what it is? You can’t go to Cuba and become a Cuban. You can’t go to Italy and become an Italian. But you can come to America and become an American! How cool is that? Back to our regularly scheduled programming: Walker Buehler Walker Buehler is not the same pitcher he was a few years ago. His fastball topped ..read more
