Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/4/24): Wisdom DH, PCA Batting 8th, Taillon Tossing

There’ll be no in-depth look at today’s matchup because, frankly, I’m not happy with the way the Cubs have played lately and it doesn’t even seem to matter who they’re facing. Depleted roster or no, scratching out just one run at a time against guys who’ve been hammered by pretty much everyone else just isn’t going to work. The Cubs are still in a great place, all things considered, it’s just frustrating and I’ve got a whole lot else to worry about today. Jameson Taillon has looked great since returning from a stiff back in spring training, so it should just be a matter of providing him with e ..read more

Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (5/3/24): Brewers 3, Cubs 1 – Milwaukee Steals Late Win
Cubs Insider
by Sean Holland

The Cubs returned home to Wrigley Friday afternoon to begin a series with the first-place Brewers. Chicago received another quality starting pitching performance, but it was wasted once again by an unreliable bullpen and a total lack of hitting as Milwaukee manufactured three late runs to pick up a victory. Hayden Wesneski was excellent from the first frame Friday, completely shutting down the Brewers into the 7th inning. The Cubs went ahead in the 6th when Christopher Morel crushed a long solo shot to center off of Joe Ross. Hit the road ball! And don't you come back no Mo, no Mo, no Mo, no ..read more

Christopher Morel just launched his second home run in as many days, this time a solo shot to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. Morel now has six home runs on the season. Quantifying Hope: Cubs at 60% Playoff Odds Heading into Brewers Series
Cubs Insider

I have neither time nor energy for anything other than the most basic column, which is probably best for both of us. Rather than skip this entry entirely, I thought it best to keep it going just for the sake of having a running log through the rest of the season. Heading into their matchup this weekend at Wrigley, the Cubs and Brewers are running neck and neck for the division lead. They’re also possessed of nearly identical postseason odds, with the Brewers’ 60.2% edging out their neighbors to the south by two-tenths of a point. Those odds were reversed when I began this post, so I suppose it ..read more

Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/3/24): Hoerner Leads Off, Mervis DH, Wesneski Starting

The Cubs are back home after a disappointing road trip that saw them barely squeak out a split in New York. Getting walked off isn’t a fun way to leave town, especially when your roster is still heavily depleted by injuries and your division-leading rivals are coming to see you. The NL Central won’t be won or lost this weekend, but the Cubs can make a statement one way or the other depending on how they play. Hayden Wesneski gets the task of starting the series off well as he makes his second start of the season. He went four innings against the Red Sox, getting the no-decision in the first of ..read more

Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers – Series Preview (May 3-5): Overview, Game and Broadcast Info, Starting Pitchers, W2W4
Cubs Insider

The Cubs (19-13) just split a four-game series with the Mets in New York to complete a 3-4 road trip that included a stop at Fenway Park for three against the Red Sox. Chicago was able to hang in despite not having their top offensive and pitching weapons available but it won’t get any easier as they return home for a matchup with the rival Brewers. When Milwaukee (19-11) traded away ace Corbin Burnes in spring training after a quiet offseason, many people wrote them off as rebuilding. As they are wont to do, the Brew Crew have again defied expectations early in 2024 and are currently in first ..read more

Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (5/2/24): Mets 7, Cubs 6 F/11 – Lindor Doubles Up on Cubs in Loss
Cubs Insider
by Sean Holland

The Cubs and Mets played another close game on Thursday afternoon at Citi Field, and this time nine innings weren’t enough to decide things. The offenses were a lot more involved than they were on Wednesday night, but New York was able to prevail in the 11th to split the series. Ben Brown got the start for Chicago and did a very nice job in his first four frames, keeping the home team off the scoreboard. Pete Crow-Armstrong got his team on the board with an RBI ground out against Adrian Houser in the 2nd. Christopher Morel landed the big blow against Houser with a three-run homer to left that ..read more

Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/2/24): Hoerner at SS, Madrigal 2B, Wisdom DH, Brown on Bump
Cubs Insider

The Cubs have scored just 10 runs in their last five games, with four scores coming in a loss to the Red Sox that already feels like it was seven years ago and three more in the opening win against the Mets. Sitting in second place with 19 wins feels like a minor miracle given how many injuries they’ve sustained, but there’s still a sense that they’re working harder than they need to. Depleted roster or no, it won’t be good enough to simply tread water with the Brewers coming to Chicago this weekend. Speaking of being shorthanded, Milwaukee might be without Freddy Peralta following yet another ..read more
