Yet another reinstalled version of the blog reflecting a change in web hosting. To say the transition was easy would be a lie. But I appear to have it down now though I am missing some later posts as my backup was a couple of years old.
This is how I feel after the faffing involved in restoring the site on to a new server from an out of date back up.
It may take me a while to reinstate some older posts that were not in the back up. Plus there will be a bunch of more recent stuff to add that has been finished during the 3 year hiatus of this blog ..read more

I was looking to try some more ‘challenging’ miniatures and pulled this trio off the painting queue to accommodate. Left and right are Cadwallon miniatures from the defunct Rackham Miniatures and in the middle a grumpy looking fighter type from Red Box Miniatures (Hefty Hamish ..read more

Well these amusing little guys were purchased quite a long time ago now. And they were painted a long time ago too but I have only recently realised I never did take photos or blog about them. Maybe because I wasn’t sure what ‘genre’ they really matched nor how I was ever going to use them in a game setting.
Most of you will be familiar with the Worms video game. A classic in it’s day and I believe still going strong. Well MJ Figures took to the idea of producing a range of Worms loosely based on the franchise and appear to have run with the idea producing some cool, some silly, and some very ..read more

You may well know of my love of 15mm but I still love painting up 28mm too! Especially those from the superb Oathsworn. Recently this has been mostly in the form of their Burrows and Badgers range which is quite excellent. However some time back I managed to score what remained in stock (at the time) of their great Dwarven range (see how I’ve not mentioned the halflings and Sensible Shoes minis I’ve waiting patiently in the wings as well…). Sadly the dwarves are no longer available on their site.
The purchase included these two damsels who wouldn’t look out of place as part of a Frostgrave par ..read more

Anyone that’s visited here before will probably know of my fondness of the Demonworld range of 15mm fantasy miniatures available from Ral Partha Europe. Easily amongst the best available in this scale.
I also like barbarians so it wasn’t long before I had bulked my collection of Thain warriors a few years back when RPE started selling single sculpts (making the collecting of ‘unique singles’ far more viable).
If you were to dig around this blog you’d come across several post of previously painted Thain. These had been intended for skirmish type games so there was no real logic applied in resp ..read more

Way back I acquired a rather large haul Woodland Warriors from Splintered Light Miniatures in the US.
Many have been painted, but the vast majority remain unfinished. So as part of The Plug the Gap Project I decided to finish off some logical chunks that would at least allow for some ‘battle’ level units to be fielded. First up, the Mice.
A handful of these were done years ago – see this post – and just needed rebased. Now a total of 34 mice. The nasty vermin rats were done last year. Same post has some useful scale comparison shots for those intrigued. David at SLM now sells these as ’28mm’ a ..read more

In the back ground I’ve been slowly working through my large stash of the brilliant Demonworld barbarians – the Warlords of Thain – available from Ral Partha Europe. Easily among the best 15mm fantasy available today.
This is the ‘Eagle Arrow’ Ballista which should add a few options to a Dragon Rampant or any other army list.

A little off tangent here but maybe of interest to some visitors to this blog.
I bought these drawer cabinets from The Works some time back – when they were £12 a pop – now £15 as you can see from this link.
There was no intention of using them as drawers as such but they have proved very good as hanging displays which was my intent. What to do with the removed drawers? Well you can judge for yourself if you think they would – with some paint and customisation – work as habitats and buildings for a city table top.
I have also assembled and glued together a bunch of the drawers to create yet mo ..read more

When I say “Halloween Special” I do think the Zombicide Abominalpha is pretty monstrous and suitably ‘horror’. Likewise the two pistol wielding miniatures look very ‘Van Helsing-like’ to justify the otherwise loose use of the Halloween phrase in the post title.
That aside, these are a ‘random’ collection of miniatures that I decided to paint up – random in the sense that over time there are certain miniatures in your collection that frequently pop in to your mind from time to time, almost asking “Why have you not painted me yet?” These are a few of the lucky few that I actually decided that th ..read more

It was a number of years ago that I first came across Oathsworn Miniatures and have acquired (if not painted) quite a pile of lead from them. Never disappointed with anything I’ve bought from Michael or Jo who also happen to be excellent.
The dwarves and sensible shoes miniatures are fantastic but it is the Burrows and Badgers anthropomorphic miniatures that really attract me to Oathsworn. Whilst I have curbed my purchasing of miniatures in general over the last couple of years it is with great pleasure that I continue to see Michael and Jo’s business go from strength to strength.
