Award Winning: The 2023 club award winners with their certificates.
Friday 6th October saw Bristol Baseball Club’s annual awards dinner, this year held at The University Literary Club in Clifton and also celebrating 15 years of Bristol Baseball Club. Over 50 club members and their guests attended the dinner in total, and a delicious meal and fun night was had by all.
As well as the fabulous food, fun and frivolity, the night also saw the presentation of the various end of year awards in recognition of both statistical success, development and off-field commitment to the club.

The Badgers BBF AAA playoff hopes were ended on Sunday with two defeats by the Herts Cardinals.
Needing to win both games of the double header, the Badgers went down 10-5 and 11-7 at the Basing Hill Ballpark in London.
In the first game, the Bristol side went behind early and found themselves 9-3 down at the bottom of the fourth inning as their pitchers struggled to contain the Cardinals’ offense. In response, Mattia Papini and Josh Boulton both hit doubles but the Badgers struggled against some tight Herts pitching despite Papini, Charlie Turner and Seyi Awofadeju each stealing a base.

Badgers’ infielder Deivydas Trinkunas hit his first home run of the season in the loss against Richmond Knights.
It was a tough weekend for Bristol Baseball Club with the Badgers, Bats and Brunels all losing their double headers on Sunday.
The Badgers were involved in two close BBF AAA games in Richmond against the Knights. The first game was a tense pitchers’ duel with only three runs separating the teams at the end of the fifth inning. The Badgers’ 13-4 victory in the first match of their BBF AAA double header against Essex Redbacks on Sunday has kept their playoff hopes alive. The Bristol team leapt out to an early 7-0 lead with shortstop Mattia Papini leading the way with two hits, three runs and two runs driven in.
The Badgers showed great discipline at the plate, benefitting from 10 walks as the Redbacks pitching failed to hit the strike zone. Infielder Sam Stainsby slides in to score the Brunels first run on Sunday.
Bristol Brunels out hit the New Forest Thunder Knights on Sunday but eventually went down 12-5 and 8-7 in their BBF/SWWBL A double header.
Despite the Brunels racking up 13 hits across both games compared to three by the Thunder Knights, the Bristol team’s pitchers gave up 22 walks which allowed the New Forest offense to get on base and score consistently in both games.

Outfielder Ed Smith’s crucial late heroics at the plate kickstarted Bristol Buccaneers’ victory in the first game of their double header against Cardiff Merlins II at Somerdale Pavilion on Sunday. With the Buccaneers still one run behind at the top of the fifth innings, rookie Smith hit a two-out single to advance Jean-Pierre Bernard to third and keep the game alive.
Third baseman Paul Blackburn then stepped up to drive in Bernard and take the game into extra innings. The Buccaneers had been 8-4 down before Smith and Blackburn completed the comeback to tie the scores.

Jordan Nichols and Sam Kaiser formed the middle infield for the Brunels and completed a double play in the second game to end the Cornish Claycutters inning.
Bristol Brunels’ trip to take on the Cornish Claycutters in Truro ended in two losses in the BBF/SWWBL A clash on Sunday. In the first game the Brunels could not come to terms with a strong pitching performance from the Claycutters’ Dan Kitts.

Bristol Badgers’ 4-1 victory in the first game of their BBF AAA double header against Richmond Knights at Somerdale has kept them in the play off race. Bristol Bats MVP from the weekend was Josh Boulton who hit his first home run against Richmond Dragons.
Josh Boulton’s all round performance in the 13-11 victory against Richmond Dragons on Sunday helped keep Bristol Bats in the BBF AA playoff race. Boulton hit his first ever home run which scored three runs as well as striking out five Dragons over his five innings pitched.
