Ex-Lions CB Jerry Jacobs finds a new NFL home
Lions Wire

Former Detroit Lions starting cornerback Jerry Jacobs has found a new NFL home. Jacobs is signing with the Los Angeles Rams after also taking visits with the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers recently. Jacobs was one of Detroit’s best undrafted free agent stories of the last few seasons. After going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2021, the feisty cornerback earned not only a roster spot but a starting role as a rookie. He played in 40 games over his three years in Detroit, with 29 starts. In 2023, Jacobs started 12 games and set career-highs with 55 tackles and three INTs. However, the Lions ..read more

Friday was the third training camp session for the Detroit Lions at the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park. It marked the first day that fans were allowed to attend, with friends and family of players and VIPs filling their designated areas. It also marked the first time the players were in light pads, and the intensity ramped up accordingly. The morning sun shone down on an efficient but not always clean practice for Dan Campbell’s Lions. The full stands open on Saturday, but until then, here’s some of what I observed and noted in Friday’s practice session ..read more

With the news breaking early Friday morning that kicker Michael Badgley suffered a season-ending injury during practice Thursday, the Lions may be in the market for a veteran kicker to compete with Jake Bates, who has been off to a good start in camp. Who are some kickers they could go after? Here’s a quick list of some available veterans ..read more

In conjunction with the Detroit Lions Podcast, I recorded a video summary of what I saw and heard during the second Detroit Lions training camp practice session. The video was recorded just after Thursday’s practice in Allen Park. The focus here is on three of the most hot-button players on the roster: Terrion Arnold James Houston Jameson Williams All three had interesting days in the training camp session, which featured some special guests that piqued interest as well. They weren’t the only players who turned in notable performances, and the coverage swings around to a few other key observ ..read more

Lions kicker Michael Badgley headed for I.R., out for the season
Lions Wire

We have our first injury of Detroit Lions training camp. Kicker Michael Badgley is headed for the injured reserve and will miss the season. Head coach Dan Campbell broke the bad news about Badgley at the start of his Friday morning press conference. Campbell indicated Badgley suffered a “significant” injury and needs surgery. Badgley’s departure leaves UFL standout Jake Bates as the only kicker in camp, though Campbell added that the team has already worked out another kicker and is looking to add competition for Bates. James Houston faces 'big camp' for his Lions future
Lions Wire
by Jeff Risdon

James Houston has had quite the roller coaster of a young career with the Detroit Lions. From not making the 53-man roster as a sixth-round pick in 2022 to finishing that same season with an incredible 8-sack outburst in six games, then falling back down the depth chart last summer before suffering a serious leg injury in 2023, Houston has been all over the Lions map. Thursday’s practice session was a roller coaster in and of itself for Houston. One rep after smoking rookie Giovanni Manu around (and under) the tackle, Houston got a verbal tongue-lashing from defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn f ..read more

Dan Campbell reveals how UDFAs like Isaiah Williams can make the Lions
Lions Wire
by Jeff Risdon

It’s not going to be easy for any undrafted rookies to make the Detroit Lions 53-man roster this year. It’s one of the side effects of the Lions finally being a viable Super Bowl contender; there aren’t many open spots on the depth chart, even at the bottom. If any of the UDFA rookies are going to make it, head coach Dan Campbell laid out their path to sticking in Detroit. Campbell was asked before Thursday’s practice session how the undrafted guys, like wide receiver Isaiah Williams, can get his attention. “I told them day one, consistency,” Campbell said. “Consistent production. It’s somebod ..read more

This WR is a good sleeper to make the Lions 53-man roster
Lions Wire

When looking at the Detroit Lions depth chart, there’s some uncertainty at wide receiver after Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Last season, the third receiver was Josh Reynolds but he signed with Denver this off-season. This leads to a guessing game of who will step up. It could be Antoine Green, Donovan Peoples-Jones or Isaiah Williams. However, there’s one receiver that we’re not talking about and that player is Tre’Quan Smith. Last summer, Smith underwent groin surgery and barely played in 2023 due to that injury. He only played 10 snaps in week 8 against the Chiefs. While there’s o ..read more

Lions training camp notebook: Day 2 observations from an interesting morning
Lions Wire
by Jeff Risdon

The second day of Detroit Lions training camp was certainly an interesting one. From skill players showing out to celebrity guests, Thursday’s session at the team facility in Allen Park had a little bit of everything for an unpadded practice. After missing the opening day on Wednesday, it was great to get out and back into the swing of watching the Lions practice. Almost every player on the 90-man roster participated in some form, and the partly cloudy, relatively still morning weather provided ideal conditions for the Lions. Here’s some of what I observed and heard during the Lions’ second p ..read more
