Whimsy on a Wednesday with an artistic guide to moving, instructions, and biblical baking I’m over halfway on the 100 Days Of Wonder challenge and have kept my part of the bargain. In respect of my discipline and tenacity I feel we should start with a little bit of art philosophy. rustic (adjective) Relating to or typical of country life or the countryside; simple, unsophisticated, or plain.  Example: “The cabin had a simple rustic charm with its wooden table full of meadow flowers” The old farmhouse’s weathered wooden exterior blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Whimsy On A Wednesday Is Not Bringing You Whimsy Today. Sometimes there ain’t none. Today we will be embracing change in the form of a challenge. Or could it be that this is actually some whimsical advice? ‘Write a story in just dialogue,’they said.  ‘Bring it on,’ I replied.   Lavender Biscuits (A short story using only dialogue) by Jules Smith “Hey Grandma, I thought we were all coming to visit you today?” “Well, I felt like dropping by anyhow, last time I came you were sound asleep. All your college books were falling off the bed and you were murmuring ‘bout somethin’ in your dr ..read more

Whimsy on a Wednesday bringing you Bacon, Bars, and Bunnies! The most wonderful thing I heard on the news this week was that the Brits have voted the good ole bacon butty as their favourite comfort food. With everything else that is going wrong in this country, it’s good to see we know about food – even though the rest of the world think we don’t. Particularly the French, but as I have argued with the French before, you can’t serve cold English custard, give it a fancy pants name, and think you can get away with it. Non, mes amies.  Talking of French… I watched the Napoleon movie the oth ..read more

Whimsy On A Wednesday: Sipping, Tripping, and Laughing With Friends.  I’ve been a bit cultured and a bit mad this week. I don’t know if there’s a word for that. My mum calls it contrary. I call it spirited.  Talking of alcohol… My friends and I did a bit of wine tasting and time wasting again. Like last time but with less wine. This time we didn’t add music or drink several bottles and end up doing the Haka. That’s growth.  We are both members of the same wine club which I know sounds horribly pretentious and that’s because it is. We decided to choose two club reds and two supe ..read more

Whimsy On A Wednesday and the art of observation! I’ve been a bit of a Dolly Daydream of late and this blog post will probably be all over the place and not make sense but then, do they ever?  I sent the wolfits to be looked after when I went out and this is the picture I received: Wolfit Dialogue “Hey, look at that human out there. Do you think we could eat him?” “Hmm, he looks a bit stringy. I prefer someone with a bit more marbling, you know?” “Marbling? What are we, wolf food critics now? Maybe we should wait for a plump jogger, they gotta be well-seasoned.”  “Good point. And l ..read more

Digital Legacies And The Estate Of The Future

This Whimsy on A Wednesday is a cryptocurrency comedy.  My mother is helping to deal with the estate of a wonderful man who has very sadly passed away. God bless his soul. The good always leave us too soon. If you’ve ever dealt with someone’s affairs you will know that it can be a challenging area to navigate.  My mother told me, during a little chat over a rather lovely quiche and a bit of a salad, that she’d had the most peculiar email. “They wrote to him you know. They wrote and asked him if he was really dead.” “What the hell? Did you reply?” “No, not yet.” “You should. It would ..read more

It’s Whimsy On A Wednesday and There’s a Lot to Devour What A Charlie! The other day I received a letter in the post and nearly jumped out of my skin. It’s the King! Right there, on the right-hand side of the envelope. There was the head of our new male monarch on our Royal Mail postage stamp. This was the first time I’d seen him and I didn’t think he looked as nice as the Queen did.  And, I wondered, why hasn’t he got his crown on? I had to go and look that up. He wanted to keep it simple. Only female monarchs wear crowns on coins but he is the first male monarch not to wear a c ..read more

It’s whimsy on a Wednesday, and it’s probably raining.  This is what I feel like. I think it’s an after-Christmas syndrome.  People need to pay attention to this thing because I’ve noticed it’s widespread.  You think you’re getting back into a routine but you’re not. It’s a slow haul because you’ve forgotten how to be normal. Discipline and regime are now majorly difficult.  Try as you might, there’s a massive resistance and all of a sudden and then a bit, you can’t do anything you did before Christmas when you were a boss demon. No. You are finished. Kaput. Your life is n ..read more

Somebody Help me Out Of The Holi-Daze! It’s Whimsy On A Wednesday On A Thursday!  I had to go out today. I had to go out because I felt like I was becoming a toxic mass of dribbling forgetfulness.  I detest this feeling. Hoisted by my own petard because I drank sherry for breakfast and ate chocolate oranges for tea. I can’t be arsed to move as I’m plagued by sugary exhaustion. The only time my body wants to exercise is at 3 AM when my legs start doing a restless, horizontal run in my bed. There is a noticeable steaming, swelling, and abundance of fumarolic gas rumbling within. I’m t ..read more

A Postcard Portrayed

I like postcards. I always send people postcards when I’m on holiday because I think it’s nice to get something through your door, whilst you’re working like a dog, from someone doing nuffin’ on a sunny beach. I find this really helps strengthen relationships. I have a bit of a thing for old postcards too, just like I have a thing for old doors, old books, and manhole covers. I’m easy to please, me.  So, imagine my delight when I spied a friend going through some old postcards and notes.  “Well, I want those,” I said. “You can have them.” “Thank you.” What a straightforward and easy ..read more
