It’s true… Quantum theory is confirming what yogis intuited 5000 years ago, that we are all participants (whether we know it or not) inside an unlimited flowing field of creative potential.  On the 10th June 2022 I was delighted to present a paper at this year’s European Mentering and Coaching Council Global Conference. The conference theme was ‘United in Harmony’ and my talk explored the beanddo concept of Modern Meditation based Conscious Action. According to physicist and long-term collaborator with Krishnamurti, David Bohm, thought that we are already in harmony wi ..read more

Here is Andrea, a long time friend of beanddo. Andrea completed her yoga teacher training with Mick some time ago and now she is running her own classes. As a key NHS professional, Andrea was on the front line during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. To say we are proud of Andrea would be an understatement!  Here is Andrea’s inspiring and insightful story… I was standing in my yoga class by myself, my body covered in white and pink scales. As I moved through the yoga sequence, my body in flow and with focus on my breath the scales started to fall and disappear into the ground. I ..read more

You can be lonely, but you’re never alone.

It’s true… This is something that has taken me a few years to realise. When I was little I was a mostly lonely and lost little boy. This is something I only realised many years later in my 40’s.  When I look back and see myself then it felt like I was from a different planet and that everyone and everything around me didn’t seem to make sense. My day to day circumstances only served to increase my feelings of isolation and unbelonging.  I’m grateful for not feeling lost anymore, but I know there are millions of people in the UK who feel lonely and forgotten, particularly af ..read more

The Present…

Meditation and the other arms of Yoga have had a lasting effect on my life. I’m grateful for my friends, their gift, and the authenticity and pragmatism built into beanddo’s approach.  I read and write poetry.  I have tried to express, below, the gift that is meditation. I’ve recently celebrated a wedding of a friend and was privileged to have been invited to a Satak ceremony the day before the bride and groom married.  The Satak ceremony is a set of morning prayers to Lord Ganesh to come and remove all obstacles from the bride and groom’s path and provide them with im ..read more

Last Sunday I ran the Manchester Marathon. At beanddo we say everything we do can be a meditation… In a recent weekly Monday Morning Modern Meditation we explored meditation practice outside. This conversation gave me a big nudge in the right direction. I promised the beanddo team I would put my meditation techniques to the test and set the intention of meditating running a marathon.  So what happened? I’d like to mention this marathon was my third, so I do have experience doing it differently. And like lots of things there is no right or wrong way of doing it (well maybe when my g ..read more

How do we stay in touch with our inner-wisdom and take conscious, heartfelt action in the world?  This week beanddo Modern Meditation coach Jenny Nuttall continued to lead around the wheel of the year stopping this time at ‘Ostara’ – the Spring Equinox. The Spring Equinox is a time of perfect balance between light and dark and is known as the ‘the festival of balance and potential’   On the equinoxes (spring and autumn) there is a pause where the day and night are equal length – before we tip over into either the lighter or darker half of the year. At the Spring Equino ..read more

How do we live our lives intentionally and form a deeper connection between who we are, where we are and what we need to do.   This week beanddo Modern Meditation coach Jenny Nuttall introduced us to the Wheel of the Year and in particular Imbolk  How do we live our lives intentionally and form a deeper connection between who we are, where we are and what we need to do. One way is to really pay attention to the world through the seasons and align ourselves to them.  The Wheel of the Year serves as a good model (created by modern pagans and the Wicker Movement)&nbs ..read more

Beyond the Thinking Mind. Using Art to feel present and real.

This week’s live online Monday Modern Meditation session was inspired by a particular painting: ‘Rooms By the Sea’ by Edward Hopper in 1951.   I have wanted to write about this painting for many years. I have used it to teach design perception to students or explain to others what is meant by sense of place. For me, it’s like the canvas equivalent of Edward Thomas’ poem Adlestrop!  Ultimately, for me this is a painting of yoga. In other words: Reality  This reality, found everywhere, is just waiting to be known. As Patanjali said, the world exists for the sake of the Se ..read more
