Women in CTRL report shows increased representation on UK music trade association Boards

The key findings are that: 52% of board members across UK music trade bodies are women and non-binary individuals, up from 32% in 2020. 16% of board members are women from a global majority background, up from 3% in 2020. 100% of the organisations featured have increased gender representation on their boards. Over 55% of organisations have achieved 50% gender representation on their boards. 65% of The Ivors Academy Board identify as women or non-binary, up from 36% in 2020. A voluntary code to address the lack of transparency in music streaming has been launched by the Intellectual Property Office. It is a first step to give creators a clear understanding of how they are paid when their music is streamed. The Ivors Academy has signed up to the code, along with other trade bodies from the UK music industry. There is now a six-month implementation period before it comes into effect. The report has several key findings: Sexual misconduct, including assault and harassment, are endemic in the music industry and often go unreported. Career paths are hindered by lack of support, gender bias, and unequal opportunities. Self-employment is prevalent in the industry and exacerbates these challenges, leaving women vulnerable to exploitation.
