Great Britain Under-20s Men will travel to Netherlands for an international tournament next month. The under-20s will take part in the Watersley International Ice Hockey Tournament at the Glanerbrook Ice Rink from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th August. Five young NextGen prospects will be part of the Great Britain training camp squad in Cardiff next month. Defencemen Brad Bowering and Archie Hazeldine, along with forwards Kieran Brown, Mac Howlett and Logan Neilson, will link-up with the 27-man squad announced yesterday. Great Britain have named their 27-man training camp squad ahead of next month’s Final Olympic Qualification tournament in Aalborg. GB face hosts Denmark, along with Norway and Japan, from Thursday 29th August to Sunday 1st September 2024. The group winners will progress to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Almost 30 years after the Durham Wasps left Wearside, a clutch of trophies won by the successful ‘Big Blue Machine’ in the late 1980s and early 1990s has been found. The silverware had spent years hidden in a garage and came to light during preparations for an exhibition into the history of Durham Ice Rink and the community that grew up around it. Ice Hockey UK would like to thank the Great Britain Supporters’ Club (GBSC) who have donated £10,000 to the GB Programme. GBSC follow all GB teams – men and women – all over the world and there were hundreds of supporters at the recent men’s World Championship in Prague. The Great Britain Supporters’ Club has formed in June 1993 and was the brainchild of Annette and Allan Petrie. After arranging a trip for around 12 people in Copenhagen in 1991, they took 25 fans from Slough, Nottingham, Medway and Bracknell to GB’s triumphant promotion in Eindhoven in 1993.
