I was commissioned to paint this picture of Merton College in Oxford. An ideal piece for me really as I always enjoy the fussy details of street scenes like this. You can buy a limited edition print of this painting here A bit about Oxford I visit Oxford occasionally and it’s easy to forget how old many of these streets are, possibly because these fine buildings now tend to sit among twenty-first century franchises such as Starbucks and McDonalds with streams of modern cars passing by. The history of Oxford as a center of learning goes back centuries really taking-off in 1167. It was at this t ..read more

A video about the journeys with my sketchbook
Watercolours

I have a shelf at home that is full of my old sketchbooks and occasionally I flick through them to recall and relive my past. I say this as it occurred to me that my sketchbooks are the nearest thing I have to a diary. I can often forget my past, however when I browse my old drawings and paintings the memories revive themselves and much of the detail comes back to me. My sketchbooks are also part of my work because I use them to develop my ideas, they are my work and my life too. Musing on this gave me the idea of making a short video about my life with my sketchbooks. I am an artist that ..read more

A video and paintings of The Glastonbury Festival

In this article, I am going to talk about  the Glastonbury Festival, the iconic event that has been taking place in rural Somerset for over 50 years. As you might expect, having attended the festival since 1990 and currently residing next to it, I have created numerous paintings inspired by “Glasto” over the years. Surprisingly, the Glastonbury Festival is not actually held in Glastonbury itself, but rather a few miles away in the charming village of Pilton. This small village, with a population of just under a thousand people, embodies the quintessential English countryside. It boas ..read more

See the video below    Maida Vale has been a bit of a favourite spot of mine, so I’ve decided to also write about a few other paintings completed over the years. Initially I am going to talk about this large oil painting which is a scene along the Regent’s Canal in Little Venice, and then I will be visiting a number of places that I have painted over the years. You can purchase this painting here You can purchase a limited edition print of this painting here There is a bit of a mystery who first coined the name ‘Little Venice’ though I have half an idea it was a rather canny estate age ..read more
