If you know your hats, you’ll know that the Tilley brand is recognised across the globe for its iconic and classic designs, which are not only intended to look good but also to perform to the highest standard. The new T5MO model has been made from organic cotton and is one of a family of styles which feature Airflo technology and also UPF 50+ protection. This combination makes them highly sun protective, breathable, very lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear, even for long stretches of time. We road-tested ours during a hike on a hot Yorkshire day and found the combination of breathab ..read more

M&S launch new traceability campaign for British beef

It’s no secret that when you shop at M&S for food, you’re getting something that’s a cut above the norm. Food shopping at M&S has, over the past decade or so, taken on a real air of luxury; much of this is thanks to some clever advertising and marketing, but just as much has to do with the fact that the retailer can genuinely back up their claims with quality product.   Their latest campaign highlights exactly this. M&S are now the only national retailer able to trace 100% of their beef back to the farm and the individual cow. This includes everything from fillet steak to the ..read more

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock recently, you’ll know that the new series of Love Island has just started. What better way to celebrate the return of the cheesiest show around to our screens than with a chicken fondue dish! Absurd Bird are launching the UK’s cheesiest, gooiest chicken fondue dish, combining giant BBQ chicken wings, chicken sliders, buffalo tenders and deep fried Babybels (yes, really), served with a pool of the gooey fondue cheese, a mountain of Wotsit dust to sprinkle on top, and a squeeze of Primula Cheese. The meal is so cheesy that the chicken shack is handing out ..read more

The art of coffee: Barista classes at 200 Degrees, Leeds

While of course many people enjoy making a nice fresh filter coffee or simply a nice cup of instant coffee every day just to keep them ticking along nicely, we very rarely think about the difficulties involved in actually making a fine cup of coffee. Indeed, when you head to a coffee shop you simply expect your coffee to come as requested and quietly grumble if your cortado turns out to be more of a flat white or the latte art fails to actually show any art and instead ends up a bit of a mess on top of the coffee. After spending a morning with the incredible Paul (who can make some of the ..read more

Road-testing the new Stellar beech collection

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks road-testing the new Stellar beech cutting boards collection, which is made from high grade 20mm laminated beech, and finished with an attractive and useful stainless steel hanging loop. The large 30cm pizza paddle doubles up as a fine chopping board and a fantastic board for displaying and slicing pizzas fresh out of the oven. For us, it’s a neat way to make a midweek supermarket pizza look and feel snazzy. The fact that it also operates as a spare chopping board is a bonus! The rectangular chopping board is a staple of our kitchen now, with its smooth si ..read more

This spring has seen the launch of Brooklyn Brewery’s Mix Vol 1, possibly the coolest package of beer you’re ever going to see, and probably one of the best tasting too! The first mixed multi-pack release from the Williamsburg-based brewery delivers a range of hit beers in one handy package. It’s great for anyone who can’t quite decide on their favourite beer; in total there are 12 cans of the brewery’s finest brews, kicking off with the signature Brooklyn Lager (5.2% ABV), followed by the easygoing Brooklyn American Ale (4.5% ABV), the bold y ..read more

Ever thought about going to Gusto for brunch? Here’s why you should

Did you know that Gusto do brunch? Well, we didn’t, but we’re here to tell you that brunch at Gusto is a very, very good thing! We associate Gusto in Cookridge with relaxed Italian evening dining in a beautiful setting (and a slightly less relaxed affair when we met up with the rest of our NCT group in Gusto with seven six-month old babies for lunch!). Gusto actually open up bright and early for those who want to indulge in a spot of brunch, as we did at 9am on a Sunday morning. We were about to enjoy long, busy days, me at the spa burning off the calories by being pampered, and Kyle at the ..read more

Spring menu at Iberica full of flavour and meaty goodies

On our latest trip to Iberica, we sampled perhaps one of the best tapas dishes we’ve eaten in England. The Pluma Iberico pork kisses the grill before being served up with Mojo Rojo sauce and rosemary potatoes. The pork is seared on the outside but remains beautifully pink and tender in the middle, creating a melt in the mouth meat-sensation that is really quite stunning. We could quite happily have eaten our way through five plates of this Pluma, but we had other dishes to try, and quite happily rose to the challenge of diverting our attention away from the star of the show. Thankfully, other ..read more

Trinity Kitchen latest line-up: Greek wraps, Punjabi street food, and prosecco

Trinity Kitchen has unveiled its latest line-up, and as per usual we’re treated to a dazzling array of flavours, colours, and cuisines! Eat Like A Greek are first up with their succulent meat-filled wraps. Their seasoning and olive oil comes directly from their farm in Greece, adding a real taste of authenticity to proceedings. We sampled the lamb and halloumi wrap, which was brought to life by the quality of the meat and the accompanying balsamic vinegar. Weighing in at £10, we thought this was slightly overpriced, especially since it’s more likely to be a lunch option than a dinner option f ..read more

Fisk: Fish meets exciting fusion cooking in the heart of Harrogate

Fish restaurants can often be a tad underwhelming if you are not into seafood in the conventional sense. Pan-fried turbot might be a chef’s dream, but for some diners, it’s the stuff of nightmares. Fisk in Harrogate (they also have a few other restaurants elsewhere in the country) aims to spice up the fish restaurant market by taking the conventional combination of fish/seafood and champagne, and putting a twist on it thanks to tasty eastern influences. Fisk is located in the trendy part of town in Harrogate, close to La Feria, another of our favourite restaurants in the heart of the town ..read more
