Flags of the Forest in progress I hope you’ve been enjoying the May bank holidays (with extra coronation one for those of us in UK). I spent it with friends in North Cornwall (see pics at end). Flags, Crowns, Costumes and Giants have been recurring themes lately… I’m working on my Flags of the Forest series - eco-flag pieces inspired by woodlands.   Some have different qulities/themes and hoping they’ll speak to each other.  I’ve used labour-intensive methods such as hand-stitching, weaving, and hand-made eco dyes to celebrate biodiversity, hopeful of nature being more cared for, an ..read more

Design for Flags of the Forest - ongoing work As one thing ends, another begins… and so we go on. Thanks to all who visited my recent solo exhibition, supported, and bought work! :-) I had such a special time meeting new visitors and friends, catching up, talking art and all things related. See more about my residency and solo in my previous blog posts. A few events on the horizon: I’m involved in the Quantock Poetry Trail, led by Ralph Hoyte, (worked with me in step in stone). We're showing our work in Measureless at Studio 10, East Quay, Watchet, a film comprising spoken word and visual art ..read more

solo exhibition, photo by Russell Sach Over 60 people joined me last Saturday at the Opening Event of my solo exhibition, the culmination of a 3-week residency in the large empty shop space (Create@#8, Shepton Mallet, Somerset ).  I've been developing work related to our natural world, and its continuous entanglements, (part of my Arts Council England DYCP award, which also supported my recent research trip to Kenya).   I’ve loved my residency - it was a luxury being able to spill out, expand and respond to the space, with its wonderful pale pink plaster walls and exposed ceiling st ..read more

Really enjoying my residency in the empty shop in Shepton Mallet - Create@#8. It’s been liberating to spread out in a huge space, view my work as a collection, and get absorbed in making. I’m using the residency to develop work as part of my Arts Council England ‘Developing Your Creative Practice Award’. Ongoing work will be shown in a solo exhibition 11-19 March. Come to the Opening Event on Sat 11 March, 2-4pm! There’ll be a soundscape in response to works by Ushara Dilrukshan. Open Mon-Sat 11am-4pm. I’ve made a film about my Kenyan Art Research trip.  I immersed myself in Kenyan culture, met some inspiring contemporary artists and curators, visited galleries, museums, markets, other places of interest, and had wonderful adventures. In the final week I went to Nanyuki, on the edge of Ol Pejeta game reserve which overlooks Mount Kenya, for more wildlife, sketching, a bit of relaxation and family time. I learnt so much and made many new connections. Threads of ideas are brewing for new work.  I brought back various materials/found objects, sketchbook of notes/drawings, photos/foota ..read more

My focus this past month has been The Gleaning, a community art project I’m co-curating with Gill Sakakini. It’s thrilling to see all the installations looking so fabulous in the church windows, and to receive such wonderful reception. it’s been a huge success - all-consuming, as usual with ambitious projects involving numerous strands and people. We had a great Launch on 22 September, opened by Rt Rev Bishop Ruth Worsley (of Taunton, and Bath & Wells Diocese), and have since had excellent attendance at our exhibition with numerous events almost daily, still ongoing. This weeke ..read more
