It’s been no secret over the years that this writer likes a Ford and has rarely been disappointed. As far as SUV-style vehicles are concerned, the Ford Edge (read about it here) is a case in point from back in the days before the world went mad and nutters poured from the drains like Pennywise clones. Now the brand has revealed a new model, the all-electric Ford Explorer ‘crossover’. Apparently it has been engineered and built in Germany, and sits on the VW modular MEB platform for electric cars. So basically, it’s a VW ID.4 with added Ford bits, isn’t it? Isn’t it? It is becoming almost ..read more

There is a long-running debate as to whether electric cars are overhyped. Nevertheless, there is no denying that road users are now under immense pressure to embrace greener driving and it is especially true when driving for business, which is something HGV drivers need to consider.  The reality is that more energy is needed to move a heavy truck, that much is obvious; the good news though is that there are steps that can be taken to reduce a vehicle’s carbon footprint. Here are some ideas: Find the right HGV vehicle for your needs The road haulage sector accounts for roughly one-third of ..read more

The greater area of the Cotswolds is certainly known for its beauty; the bosky glades, the quaint villages and the rolling countryside attract tourists by the million. What the area is short on though is proper hills, like Snowdonia, which means that broad sweeping vistas are hard to come by no matter where in the region you drive. Fortunately, with Spring just around the corner, there’s Crickley Hill. About Crickley Hill Crickley Hill Country Park is a prominent spur of the Cotswold escarpment. It overlooks the Severn Vale, with magnificent views towards Robinswood Hill and May Hill, and the ..read more

Concept cars come and go. Often when they do appear as production vehicles they bear little resemblance to the designer’s flight of fancy, having been thoroughly worked over by accountants. Sometimes they are never seen again as the real automotive world intrudes on what might have been. The Concept Car Once, the arrival of a new vehicle with a striking new design was something of an event. Today, there’s a new concept around every corner. This week it’s the turn of Volkswagen with a new addition to their ID range, the ID.2All, presently scheduled to launch in 2025. Leaving aside the silly nam ..read more

Those among the aged, whose memories are not clouded by rose-tinted glasses or the passage of time will remember that motoring was once fun and that cars had recognisable silhouettes. Like studies of Second World War aircraft to distinguish one of those nasty Fokkers from a Spitfire against a bright sky, so drivers could recognise a Ford Capri from a Vauxhall Victor or a Hillman Hunter from a Rover 3500 and every one knew instantly when a Sunbeam Tiger passed by. Try doing it now. Motoring When It Was Good Motoring used to be fun, almost a pastime in itself. The family would go out for a Sunda ..read more

So it’s finally come to this: Who would have thought that we would see the day that a ‘sport utility vehicle’ would emerge from under the sign of the Prancing Horse. Purists may scream foul but the fact remains this is the modern bandwagon and there’s no reason why even legendary Italian brand Ferrari should not get on it. Anyway, just look this Purosangue; it is a masterpiece of design that makes other prestige SUV models look like exactly what they are; bland and boring.… About The Ferrari Purosangue A bit special, this Purosangue; the design mirroring that of the iconic sports cars. In the annuls of automotive history few names stand out more than the legendary Porsche 911. Through evolution to evolution the 911 range has slowly expanded, offering more variants until, finally, we arrive at the pinnacle: The 911 GT3 RS. With Porsche, driving enthusiasts know what to expect and expect to get it as I found when I drove a previous version some time back. It remains to this day a memorable experience. About The GT3 The look of the new 911 GT3 RS (which is abundantly clear in the official images) is characterised by the large number of functional aerodynamic elements, the most ..read more

Drive Out: To Burnham-On-Sea

If you fancy a drive out, pretty much anywhere on the coast of Somerset has to be approached via the M5 which, apart from the chaos around the Almondsbury Interchange and the run-off to the enchanted fortress mall that is Cribbs Causeway, isn’t a bad drive in either direction. Traffic can be heavy especially in high season (and a nightmare in the weeks before Christmas), but mostly it all flows smoothly enough. From the M5, the drive to the coast at Burnham-on-Sea is just a few miles. Sited on the edge of the Somerset Levels, Burnham is where the River Parrett meets the Bristol Channel. On ar ..read more
