Belgrade-bound: Four Scots are picked for World Cross Four Scots head for Serbia this weekend for the World Cross Country Champs in Belgrade. The representation within the GB and NI team is one of the best for many years – with only the five Scots selected in 2010 having topped the tally of four in just over 20 years. Alice Goodall and Scott Stirling will compete in the Senior races in Serbia with Natasha Phillips and Craig Shennan with the British teams for the Junior races. Scotland U17 Women at the London Mini Marathon event last year – with some of these athletes picked again this year (photo by Neil Renton) London Mini Marathon – our 2023 report Scotland will send teams to the 2024 TCS London Mini Marathon next month. And we are delighted to name the 24 young athletes selected to represent scottishathletics in London in the U17 and U15 races. Full Results HERE By Adrian Stott In near-perfect conditions, the Sri Chinmoy 100km and 50km races produced some outstanding performances in Perth on Sunday. And the highlight for the host nation was undoubtedly Dougie Selman’s Anglo Celtic Plate win – by ten seconds from two England rivals after more than six and a half hours of running. By Phil Mestecky A busy week of junior hill running saw over 100 young athletes in action, racing and at training camps across the country. Saturday saw the first race in the new Scottish Athletics U20 Hill Running League at the Birnam Hill Classic. Wins for Andrew Grant (Strathearn) and Rachel Giffen (Springburn) got their league campaigns off to the best possible start with Aedan McGonigle (unattached) and Katie Meeks (Inverness) both also securing valuable points for their respective second-place finishes. Scottish athlete Jasmin Paris has once again pushed the boundaries of women’s running and ultra marathons. The mum from Midlothian became the first woman to finish one of the world’s toughest events. Jasmin completed the Barkley Marathons in Tennessee with just one minute 39 seconds to spare of the 60-hour cut off. The course, at Frozen Head State Park, changes every year but covers 100 miles involving 60,000ft of climb and descent – about twice the height of the Mount Everest. Fife AC celebrate Senor Women’s golds at Livingston (photo by Bobby Gavin) *NOTE: Report still subject to changes, corrections, more photos etc. Livingston Results Gusting winds brought down a large tree over the National Road Relays long lap route less than 24 hours prior to the event in Livingston. But Central AC and Fife AC refused to be blown off course the following day and duly ‘logged’ yet more team success on the roads. All three Women’s medallists at the Scottish Half Marathon Champs landed shares in our Grand Prix RRGP RD1 The Scottish Road Race Grand Prix is up and running for 2024. Athletes chase shares of a total prize pot of £4000 via the races across our five-event series.
