On Sunday 23rd June 2024 our amazing Sports Ambassador Karen Arney and her good friend Francesca hosted the second ever Well Wellow 10K. The weather was perfect and the setting idyllic as nearly 80 runners took to the various trails of rural West Hampshire. Karen was delighted with the way the community once again came together to support: “Although this was only the second year we have run this event, the support has been fabulous,” she told us. “Our aim was to raise money for Against Breast Cancer, a charity close to our hearts, whilst promoting health and wellbeing through exercise. On Sunday 12th May 2024 over 160 walkers descended on Hursley for Breast Walk Ever Hampshire. Supporters could choose from a marathon, half marathon or 10KM walk, all starting and finishing at the IBM Sports & Social Club in Hursley near Winchester. Walkers enjoyed an unseasonably warm day with just under 100 opting for the half marathon distance. As a result the fruit and cold drinks at the various rest stops were, for once, more popular than the homemade cakes! All were welcomed back to the finish with a well-earned medal, a glass of something cold and a complimentary massage. There were ..read more

Research from Dr Oliver Pearce, Dr Priyanka Hirani and their team at Barts Cancer Institute, have discovered that different forms of a protein called Versican can either block, or support, the entry of cancer-killing immune cells into tumours in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). TNBC is one of the most challenging types of breast cancer to treat as it grows rapidly and does not respond to therapies often used in other types of breast cancer, such as hormone therapy. However, new clinical trials, including work led by Barts, have shown immunotherapies, which help our immune system to fight ..read more

This is exactly what Against Breast Cancer supporter, Jos McLaren ponders in her incredibly poignant song, ‘The One Thing I Would Do’. Throughout the song, Jos sings about the people in her life with whom she wants to spend her days with, as well as the places and pastimes that they might enjoy, following her diagnosis of secondary spread breast cancer. Jos was inspired to write the song after she overheard people saying what they might do, which included things like quitting work tomorrow, travelling the world and spending all their money. Jos realised that for her, it is about spending quali ..read more

A chat in the pub between friends, led Rachael Paskin, Juliet Hamilton, and Andy Aliffe, – all fans of the film calendar girls – to decide this was something they wanted to re-create for themselves to raise funds for charity. Andy contacted creative photographer Mark Page and the wheels were set in motion. Models, venues, hair, and make-up artists all booked, and over the following months Bucks Buxom Belles Calendar was born.
