Just like her Scream co-star Jenna Ortega, it seems franchise lead Melissa Barrera is set on carving a path as a scream queen. News broke just prior to Scream VI’s opening weekend last week that Barrera will next take the lead in the horror-romance-comedy Your Monster.
Written and directed by first-time feature maker Caroline Lindy, the story is described as “female-driven” and “powerful.
Your Monster will see Barrera star as aspiring actress Laura Franco, whose life is thrown into turmoil following a traumatic break-up and a cancer diagnosis. However, the young woman finds new confidence and ..read more

It’s been a long time coming, but Gun Interactive’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game finally has a release date, and it couldn’t be any more fitting.
In a loving tribute to the first words spoken on screen in Tobe Hooper’s classic slasher, the game will release on August 18th 2023. That marks exactly fifty years to the day named in John Larroquette’s narration.
Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game will follow a similar pattern to Gun Interactive’s wildly successful Friday the 13th: The Game in that it will feature both single-player and multiplayer campaigns. Just as the player had to escape C ..read more

You can now experience the chaotic highs of Cocaine Bear from the comfort of your own home!
In a rather unexpected move last week, Universal announced the Elizabeth Banks directed horror-comedy would be coming to all good video-on-demand platforms to rent whilst still in theatres.
Expectations were not particularly high for the film, but it has since gone on to gross $75 million on a budget of $30 million.
Much like they did with this year’s M3GAN, Universal are clearly keen to capitalise on this surprise success with the early VOD access.
Cocaine Bear takes its inspiration from a 1985 inciden ..read more

Much to the surprise of everyone, 2022’s Smile became a runaway hit at the box-office, taking in an eye-watering $217 million worldwide. Given that the film was originally meant to be released solely to Paramount+, such returns are stellar. Smile would go on to become the first standalone horror film since 2016 to hold the top spot at the box-office two weeks in a row. Now it seems Paramount have shown their gratitude to writer-director Parker Finn
News broke last week that the filmmaker has signed a “lucrative” first-look deal with Paramount Pictures and that a sequel to Smile is “one of the ..read more

Here at Scream Magazine we’re partial to Jaws, but this is the kind of news we hate to report. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we say Tom Joyner, first A.D. on Jaws passed away aged 79.
Although passing on February 22 after a long battle with heart disease and cancer, Joyner’s death was not announced until March 14 following his inclusion in the 2023 Oscars “In Memoriam” segment.
Aside from his work on Spielberg’s Jaws, Tom was a prolific assistant director and production manager throughout the 70s and 80s. Joyner’s credits saw him serving as a second assistant director on Clin ..read more

We are just one month away from the latest instalment of the seminal zombie series Evil Dead. Now that we’re on the home straight it seems the perfect time to build a little hype around the film and director Lee Cronin certainly isn’t disappointing fans.
Speaking this past week following the film’s premiere at the SXSW Festival, Cronin teased a cameo by series star Bruce Campbell. Despite feeling a need to tell a new story and not depend on Campbell’s Ash Williams, the director couldn’t resist a nod.
“It felt like in order to move the franchise somewhere new and to unlock the potential of the ..read more

Although audiences are currently screaming without Neve Campbell, it seems that she is never far from the minds of the franchise’s new creative team.
Speaking last week, Radio Silence and Scream producer William Sherek voiced their thoughts on Campbell returning in future instalments.
“We’d never give up on her,” director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin stated. “We love Neve and we love Sidney. So, we’d love to be able to do another movie with her. We’re not giving up.”
