Story of a Bespoke Hair Pin

We've had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with some very creative people over our years in business. This project was a really special one.  Recently, an architect paid us a visit with a special Hair pin request for her wedding day. Instead of our usual bespoke sketching, talking and refining process; this customer had made a very detailed scale drawing of the design and printed a scale version in resin!   The Hair Pin was to be made in gold-plated sterling silver and attached with hanging chains, delicately interspersed with pearls. It was clear, well designed and ..read more

Our Magical Windows  We love collaborating with talented creatives, and over the last few months, we have worked with paper-artist Sam Pierpoint to design our new store windows. Sam is a gifted artist and all-around paper genius whose work we have admired for a long time. So we were thrilled to work together to help tell our story in recycled paper, some of which are made of seaweed!   We wanted the windows to show what is at the core of EC One: our passion for making beautiful, hand-crafted jewellery that doesn't negatively affect people or the planet.   Truer words have never been said than when summing up the love story of Zak and Zoe. They met in the midst of the global pandemic and married later that year at a beautiful wedding in Oxford. It's a real joy for us to be able to share some of the images of their gorgeous day.   When Zak contacted us, we helped him realise his vision; drawing designs and crafting the engagement ring in our workshop from recycled gold.       "EC One was such a joy to work with to help turn the vision for my wife's engagement ring into a reality. Their expert advice and cl ..read more

Pearls

Pearls are the birthstone of June and have long been associated with purity, sincerity and prosperity. Their beautiful glow and reflection are known as their lustre. Shape and size-wise, traditionally, the roundest pearls were perceived as most attractive. Now we are embracing stunning organic baroque shapes and the tiniest seed pearls. Pearls are an organic gem that grows inside oysters and mussels. Natural pearls (which are very rare) occur when an irritant enters the shell, and the mollusc secretes a substance called nacre around it. This might be a piece of sand or a ..read more

One of the best parts of EC One is our location. We absolutely love being situated on Exmouth Market. The street is full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants.  When you pop along to the shop, make a day of it and enjoy the laid back cosmopolitan atmosphere.   Shops Space Established in 1998, the Mum and Daughter team somehow fell into retail and found that there’s a whole lot of fun to be had when you’re selling good stuff to good people. The shop is bright, colourful and packed with great gifts - either for others or yourself! The team have a passion for pattern and colour ..read more

As restrictions are lifting our June blog includes suggestions for visiting, eating and drinking inside - exciting! We hope you like them and of course we'd love to hear from you if there are places/books/podcasts you think we should be recommending or checking out. Much love Out & About...   This month Jo's tip is to head off to Greenwich. I am a big fan of a stately home and Eltham Palace is definitely one of my favourites. The former home of the eccentric Courtauld family, this impressive mansion (based in Greenwich) is an amazing mix of architectural styles. My favourite ..read more

Anatomy of a Ring

I know that for something so small it can feel daunting how much terminology there is  associated with a ring.  So I thought I’d walk you through the most used terms to give you extra knowledge and confidence if you’re buying or commissioning a ring.     Ok, let’s start at the top where the exciting stuff happens!   The top of the ring is called the head and it holds the main stone or stones   In a solitaire there’s a single stone but there could be more.  For example if it has three stones (it’s a trilogy ring) or a Halo if the central stone ..read more
