Rolling Out Robotics to Build a Middle School CTE Pathway
When Jacksonville Middle School in Texas started offering a robotics course to middle school students this year, it was a pretty big deal. Hunter McConnell, instructional technologist, had used CoderZ at a previous district and knew that the gamified coding platform would be a good fit for his new school.
“With CoderZ, you’re always going to get more than you pay for versus having to buy a physical robot,” said Hunter. “You can get more kids involved in CoderZ, which has fewer limitations due to the fact that it’s virtual.”

In the vibrant world of coding, bugs are not just errors; they’re opportunities. As educators, our mission extends beyond teaching kids to write code. We aim to normalize debugging—to transform it from a dreaded chore into a celebrated part of the learning journey. Here’s how we can make that shift and empower our young programmers.
Debugging: A Path to Self-Efficacy
When children see us debug code, they learn that even experts encounter obstacles. This transparency is crucial. It shows that mistakes are a natural part of the process, not a sign of failure. By normalizing debugging, we foster ..read more

“Ms. Bacon, I broke it!”
The call came from across the classroom, quickly followed by laughter from the rest of the students. It had become something of an inside joke for the class: breaking the code, making strange things happen with the program, and sharing surprising discoveries with the rest of the class. I couldn’t have been happier.
As educators, we want to empower our students to independently explore the world around them, make predictions, test hypotheses, and adjust understandings as the world throws them curve balls. Programming and debugging are powerful ways to put our students ..read more
