Employees have an absolute right to take leave when they are unwell or injured, or if they need to care for someone else, and generally a couple of days recuperation and they are back on the job and everything is hunky dory. Fixed term contracts have their place but the changes that the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Act means that the businesses that have fixed term contracts on a wash, rinse and repeat cycle will need to reconsider how they will proceed come 6th December 2023.
