Whilst the recent hot weather has been a welcome relief for some and an opportunity to dust off the BBQ again this year, the heat is causing problems for some species including bats.
During the day, bats shelter in dark places (roosts), such as in hollow trees, in loft and attic spaces, under tiles and behind soffits, or in splits in the trunks and branches of trees, moving at different times of the year between roosting places that are used as daytime roosts and maternity roosts.
Bats known to frequently move between roosts to find the right temperature – not too cold and not too hot. But if ..read more

Our ecologists have been undertaking monitoring of several protected species recently ahead of works on major infrastructure projects, but not all of them have started with confirmed evidence or field signs. We recently undertook monitoring of some habitat that turned out to be used by badgers, despite there being no signs of badgers and plenty of otter and European beaver field signs.
The monitoring of the feature was conducted over a period of two weeks and involved the use of camera traps being set up to record animals entering or leaving the habitat, which in this case was holes under some ..read more

Planning Success!
The Acoustics team at Ellendale Environmental is very pleased to hear that our client, Context Properties, has been successful with getting planning consent from City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) for The Earl Grange Café on Fountainhall Road.
Ellendale supported the planning application by undertaking a noise impact assessment, so that the café can change from Class 1 use (shops) to Class 3 (food and drink). The assessment looked at the internal noise level which could be transferred into the first floor flat above the café, based on typical café noise levels and the cons ..read more

We are back after the Christmas break and today is a special one for Ellendale Environmental. We mark 10 years since we started and celebrate a decade in which we have become firmly established as an environmental consultancy.
TEN YEARS! That is crazy. We had no idea then what we were getting into or that we would still be doing this 10 years later. It has been an incredible journey that has seen the team grow to what it is today.
Ellendale Environmental started somewhere along on the M4 with one ecologist. Today we have a team of four ecologists and the company has also grown ..read more
