The INCRA I-Box Jig has been around for a while and there’s a wide range of online reviews, and INCRA also have some excellent video guides on their website. As I was about to start a project involving the construction of six large drawer boxes in birch ply I took the plunge in October 2020 and ordered the I-Box from Wood Workers Workshop. Over the last few years, I’ve bought a number of items from them and have been pleased with the service they provide. Great customer service like this means you’re happy to shop again!
Overall, based on my experience of using the jig in a router ta ..read more

A marking gauge is often a fairly basic tool: consisting of two pieces of beech or similar, a steel pin through the stem and a screw of some sort to tighten the stock – that’s it. On the other hand, it may be a thing of beauty, made from an exotic hardwood with decorative brass inlays. Alternatively, it may contain no timber at all, such as this gauge from AUK Tools.
A groove along the stainless steel stem accommodates the dual adjuster screws, so there’s absolutely no play in the gauge when tighten ..read more

This is a sturdy, professional tool that’s dead easy to use. It’s fast, gives consistent results, can also be used on convex edges, and these don’t necessarily need to be lipped, either. It’s also ideal for softening edges of ply and OSB sheets, which can be sharp when hauling full boards into place.

We have recently expanded our exclusive AUKTools and have been working with Fast Labels to produce our AUKTools product labels. We needed a company who could produce high quality, durable labels that would meet our needs.
Fast Labels offer completely customised product labels, allowing manufacturers to order labels that fit their own brand guidelines. We ordered gloss polypropylene labels, but the printing company also offer matt, metallic and textured paper finishes to meet all needs.
AUKTools is an exclusive brand of quality woodworking and routing products. Created by woodworkers ..read more

Due to the coronavirus pandemic our 2020 Open Day and Tool Show which was to be held on Saturday 11th July is going to be postponed.
As you may well be aware, the government has called on the public to stop gathering to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and so it wouldn’t be responsible for us to go ahead with the event at this time. We hope you can join us at our next Open Day and Tool Show.
We’ll keep you posted when we have a new date via our newsletter or you can visit the website to check for updates.
Stay safe, and we’ll be in touch with more information soon ..read more

By John Lloyd
Capable of cutting endless custom joints and templates, the PantoRouter is a really clever concept, says John Lloyd, but would perhaps be better suited to the machine-based woodworking enthusiast with an engineering brain.
As you might have already guessed, a ‘PantoRouter’ is a cross between a pantograph and a router, and just in case you’re not sure what a pantograph is, it’s a mechanical linkage made up of parallelograms, which is used either to collect power for a train or tram from overhead cables – possibly not much call for that sort of device in woodwork; or to copy or sca ..read more

No surprises
I’ve used different electronic gauges that bridge cutters and blades, but none quite like this one. With some gauges the tip is often difficult to locate on the highest sawtooth, especially if the blade needs to be rotated with one hand while the gauge is held in the other. This handy gauge from iGaging is better in this respect, with a handle to hold it in place as well as strong magnets for hands-free operation (although this requires a steel-topped table, of course). Because the gauge can also be used to measure the depth of shallow holes, it is important to remember to place t ..read more

Sharp edges
New chisels often come with rigid plastic guards to protect you from them, as well as protecting the sharp edge from any contact with anything that will chip it. Guards on old chisels, even if they had them in the first place, are usually long gone; lost, thrown away after splitting, or just seen as a ‘useless’ bit of packaging. Even after spending hours grinding, honing and polishing chisels and gouges, replacing lost guards was just not something that I’d expect to be able to do, although I did once have a go at making one from wood.

Are you setting a quiz and looking for a ‘mystery item?’ If so, look no further! What a funny looking push stick… Actually, this isn’t a push stick; i t’s a clamp.
Safety first
The 10 Million Dollar Stick (10MDS) allows you to keep wood in place on a chop or radial arm saw without risking a trip to A&E if you get it wrong. The 10 in the name refers somewhat ominously to how many fingers and thumbs you ought to have, by the way. The manual holding of wood close to any sharp, fast-moving blade is of course foolhardy and can be awkward, especially if you are cutting an angle and/or the workpi ..read more
