Early February 2020 I had the privilege to interview an old friend of mine, a wonderful mother, a great friend, a domestic abuse survivor ‘Tanya Pinnock” to help bring awareness in the pregnancy and birth community. Domestic abuse is a very common hidden crime which takes place mostly in the abuse victims home. In the UK almost 1 in 3 women aged 16-59 will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime. This video is a great learning tool for everyone.     Thank you for watching. Please seek help if you think you or someone you know is a suffering from domestic abuse. Report Domest ..read more

We have come to the last day of Black History Month. To end this month, I thought it would be a good idea to reflect on the history of birth within the black community. Below I have attached a few videos to give you a deeper insight into what birth looked/s like in the black community.   In the UK, Maternal Mortality is 4x higher for black women than white women, infant mortality is 5x higher for black babies.  The black community currently suffers the highest mortality rate through childbirth, this needs to change, it’s going to take some time to reduce the numbers, but first we ..read more

Finding Balance in the Journey

I never imagined my breast feeding journey lasting this long. I thought that when I was back to work after 12 months, that would be it, my breast-feeding days would be over, something I would miss but at the same time, I would appreciate my uninterrupted sleep and perhaps feel a bit more energetic through my day. Well, I was wrong, about a few things. 20 months in, I am still breastfeeding, I can improve my energy levels by managing my diet well and going to bed a little earlier has helped too. Breastfeeding for the most part, has been a great joy for me, and it has also taught me a lot about ..read more

What Does World Breastfeeding Week Mean To You?

It is World Breastfeeding Week, August the 1st – 7th.  I love when I see how much people are celebrating this week, but when I look deeper, the most people who is celebrating this week is women who are currently breastfeeding or women who are working within this field. Why is this?…. I believe it is very important for society to celebrate this day, non-breastfeeding women and men too, because there may be a time in your life when you, your friend, your child or your grandchildren may just need that additional breastfeeding encouragement and support from you, but because you never felt bre ..read more

I have put together an Infant feeding survey to look into the racial & cultural disparities of breastfeeding within the UK. I am currently in the process of planning Black Breastfeeding Week 2019, which will take place on Friday 30th August 2019 (save the date). In regards to breastfeeding over here in the UK there seems to be some confusion with the statics of black women breastfeeding as it is noted that black women have the highest breastfeeding rates of 1-3%. Many are questioning this, as there are many factors within the black community which causes black women to not exclusively brea ..read more

I am a Birth and Postnatal Doula. Today I want to share with you what Postnatal Doulas do. https://youtu.be/gaANRWUKKHM Postnatal Doulas usually start working with families in the first few weeks/months after birth.  Some Postnatal Doulas do work with families with older babies too, but as one told me, if you are supporting a family for more than 3 months, you need to reflect if your job was well done or if it was that you have become dependent on the regular income by supporting one family for 6months-1year, as we as Doulas are to support women and their families to become independent an ..read more

Lately I’ve been enjoying broccoli. I’ve desired it regularly since having my last son and it’s in most of our meals. Broccoli actually is a versatile vegetable. We’ve had it at every meal. A simple tip is that you can enjoy the stalk in different meals and use the head in others. It makes a great part to a curry or even breakfast dish. When you start to read about all the goodness in broccoli it’s no wonder that it is something I have been craving after childbearing and nursing for such a long time! I recently did a cooking demonstration and was asked to find something suitable for sickle ce ..read more
