Crooked house owners want to rebuild — in a new location

The owners of the Crooked House pub say they will go through with an order to rebuild the property — but in a different location. The pub caught fire in a suspected arson attack in August last year. Days later, it was demolished. Earlier this year the owners were ordered by South Staffordshire Council to rebuild the landmark, and were given three years to do so. Owner ATE Farms Ltd says that rebuilding the pub in the same spot would “not provide a sustainable community facility”. It’s three years since pubs in England were finally allowed to re-open for business following Covid lockdowns, but three years on, the sector is still feeling strained. Fell Brewery has worked with the team at Our Farm by Simon Rogan on the second in a series of beers, a courgette and mint gose. The beer makes use of surplus produce grown on the farm near the Lake District village of Cartmel. The 3% ABV brew makes use of a simple malt base to support juiced courgettes, as well as fermented courgette juice, spritzed up with salt and a restrained amount of pineapple mint. McColl’s has collaborated with six other brewers and a supplier to create half a dozen beers raising funds for three men’s mental health charities.
