Double Denim. Two words that, until recently, conjured the image of a cheesy, 80's "soccer moms" or the iconic denim overload of Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards. However, the much debated Canadian Tuxedo has had a fashion renaissance in the last few years and we, for one, are here for it!  Although we wish Edinburgh was ready for the couple's iconic look, we're just not sure. So we've put together our own take on the trend, drawing inspiration from some of fashion's biggest names.          With the 80's and 90's ..read more

We all love a classic black leather biker jacket, don't we? Think those bad gals in the 50's, Blondie in the 70's, Madonna in the 80's and, style queen, Kate Moss. They've all got that classic black biker look sorted.       They've become a staple in most modern wardrobes and have the ability to give almost any outfit that cool vibe. With that in mind, we thought we'd grab one of our vintage bikers and style it up in three different ways to give you some inspiration!  (Leather Cropped Black Biker Jacket - £40) First up, we went for this Punk inspired look. A leather j ..read more

When you think of the 1980's you think of bold colours and striking patterns. It's excessive, it's fun, it's over the top and most of all it screams summer!  We love the 1980's here at Armstrongs and are loving it's current revival in menswear this season. It's time to celebrate the big hair, bright colours and extreme styling of the decade... okay maybe we can leave the mullet where it belongs!  The past few seasons have seen menswear become wilder and more expressive, taking inspiration from the groovy 70's and rave 90's. So it's really no surprise that designe ..read more

This week we spoke to Miss Jane, our delightful manager in the Grassmarket! She's a bite-sized bundle of style and a much-loved part of Armstrongs. Her style is bold, classy, exciting and always perfectly put together! Her iconic combinations inspire us on a daily basis and are a great example of vintage styling.  The outfit below is made of a repurposed, embroidered Kimono. She loved the beautiful detailing and knew exactly how to make it work! Removing the sleeves, layering it over a plain top and adding a coral brooch at the waist, Jane owns this look!        ..read more

We may be in April, but winter is still clinging on and we're definitely over it! So while we wait for sunshine and blue skies we've put together some bold, colourful outfits to cheer us up.  Our inspiration came from the paint box brights seen during fashion weeks and the colour blocking that was popular during the 1960's & 70's and gave them an Armstrongs Twist!       We love seeing the cyclical nature of fashion and thought that this particular trend demonstrated perfectly the idea that nothing-is-new, and was a great way of brightening up the cold "s ..read more
