Flora and Fauna: Savannah’s Next Big Thing
Eat It and Like It

Some time ago, during a routine conversation for another story with Chef Brandon Carter, he let on that the family would be expanding in the future. He wasn’t prepared to talk about it at length, but I’d had enough chats with Brandon over the years to know he was excited about this. If you don’t know, Chef Brandon is the creative tip of the spear for the FARM family of restaurants. What started out as a smallish eatery in Old Town Bluffton had expanded to four restaurants at the time. He made it clear they weren’t done, which got my attention. Beyond that, all he offered was their desire for a ..read more

It’s been a great year of pop up dinners for the crew at Fleeting over the course of 2024. Capitalizing on the culinary momentum they’ve created with one night menus outside of their regular offerings, Fleeting Savannah is going to take us to the Tuscany region of Italy next week. It’s a one night only event this time around, but it is also a bit of a precursor to a special menu they will be offering later this Summer. Effimero is Fleeting’s one night pop up they’ll be hosting on Tuesday, June 18th. The entire menu is the work of Fleeting Chef Cameron Dempsey. Desserts included. “I have cooked ..read more

Eat It and Like It: Greece 2024
Eat It and Like It

I had no idea what to expect the first time I visited Greece. What I can say is that I find a certain comfort level I’ve not felt too many other places in Europe. In 2022, I toured most the country. Small towns, coastal villages, and larger cities. We went 5 days without anyone really speaking a lick of English, which I loved. I witnessed a lot of poverty, of course, but I also met a proud population. In many ways, and I’ve said this a few times since, they remind me of my childhood in Miami. They can be loud and gregarious, making a normal conversation seem like an argument. They can be incre ..read more

Eat It and Like It

For seemingly months, it was one of the worst kept secrets in town. Tricks BBQ, a legendary ‘roadside bbq’ stand on Savannah’s Bull Street was going to be closing up shop at that iconic location and moving to Garden City. It wasn’t a matter of if, but when. The time has apparently come. With Trick’s making the announcement via social media. There was no tearful explanation. There was no goodbye message to anyone who visited the spot on Bull Street. Simply, they are moving. The why is fairly simple as well. The building, near the heart of the Starland neighborhood-2601 Bull Street-has been sol ..read more

The Return of Rise Biscuits to Broughton Street
Eat It and Like It
by Jesse Blanco

And just like that, they were gone. A handful of months ago, I was peppered with a series of emails from people who work in and around Downtown Savannah.  One of their favorite spots, Rise Biscuits, had closed.  There was no “Thanks for the memories, but we are out of here” type sign on the door, there was no sign of the space being cleared out.   It was just closed.  As in, not open. Ever.  When I stopped by briefly to take a peek for myself, there was nothing going on and a pile of mail on the floor just inside of their glass doors. Given that Rise was a franchise, I ..read more
