Raise your hand if you had this one on your bingo card. If you did, we may need to bring you in for a polygraph.
The building that was the former home of Paula Deen’s Creek House on Whitemarsh Island has finally sold. It’s new owners, Savannah’s first couple of baking, Katie Bryant and Mark Ekstrom, owners of Auspicious Baking Company. Yeah, wow.
The announcement was made midday Tuesday via social media. “We bought a restaurant, y’all…a big one” Quite clever, indeed.
The announcement continues with an explanation that Auspicious had been in desperate need of more space for quite some time. No ..read more

What a great great night!
You may find it hard to believe but I actually had a conversation with someone who lives in Savannah recently that didn’t know that Stratton Leopold, owner of Leopold’s Ice Cream, was a very successful motion picture producer. It may very likely be one of the worst kept secrets in town. In fact, it isn’t a secret at all. All you need to do is visit Leopold’s Ice Cream (which many of us do regularly) and see so many of the movies Stratton had a hand in creating over his storied career in Hollywood. The photos line the walls. Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, Jimmy Smits, Joh ..read more

Another page is turning in Savannah’s recent history. Jens and Friends, a popular martini bar on Bull Street in the heart of downtown Savannah, has announced their last day of operation at that location will be March 24th. Yes, roughly a month away.
The announcement was made via social media on Thursday morning.
“After 18 years 6 months and 3 days….” the statement reads “We have lost our lease and will be closing on March 24, 2024.”
The news isn’t entirely surprising considering the building within which Jens and Friends has existed was recently sold to a hotel developer. Demolition has alread ..read more

When I tell people what I know, the reactions, frankly, have been priceless. Some people, too many people, have gotten angry because they didn’t like the answer I gave them. True story. Had a friend call “bs” on me and all but accuse me being part of a media conspiracy to keep the alleged ‘real information’ away from the public. Seriously.
What is the question that is the source of such ire?
“When is The Darling Oyster Bar going to open in Savannah?”
I got a message via social media as recently as last night. Asking “When/If” the Charleston-based raw bar and seafood restaurant is finally going ..read more
