We did a short boat cruise from Walkerville North to Bell Point and back. The coastal scenery there is very cool. Shot with Insta360 One X2 camera - I'm learning how to edit 360 videos.
I am having a forced extended break from watersports until my tennis elbow injury heals. Its taking a while, I am having acupuncture treatment now ..read more

I took this video of the crew kitesurfing the reef break at Flinders on Sat 18 December. I have tennis elbow so was unable to kite this time.
Flinders is a great place to kitesurf when the wind gets in there but its for experienced kitesurfers only. It is a long swim back to the beach if you tangle your kite or have an equipment failure ..read more

The two Stuarts and I took an outrigger canoe to the Inside Ekas surf break in the morning. There were around 15 people surfing there. People come across from Kuta by boat and also from access point below Ekas Surf Resort (who have one SUP for hire).
The reef break was clean but not too easy to catch. I wasn't having much success on my the surfboard I rented from Ekas but it was great to be out there watching others carve up the waves.
I eventually caught one and got a good ride in then headed back to the canoe feeling quite tired. Surfing is hard work for me - lots of paddling and my st ..read more

Session 558. Our first day kitesurfing of the trip at Kaliantan was everything we had hoped for.
We headed toff after lunch in a van to Pantai Cemara, the location now favoured for kitesurfing, which is to the east of Kaliantan. The driver took us close to Tampah Boleq as the vehicle track into the kitesurfing location is quite rough. We walked around the corner to get to the kite beach.
The wind was howling around 25-30 knots.
This spot is around the corner from the main Kaliantan beach and has a nice sandy beach. The wind is cross onshore and there is a good tack out into ..read more

Our Lombok kitesurfing trip was finally happening after being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID restrictions!
After flying to Bali last night and sleeping in the well appointed Novotel airport hotel, and a great breakfast, we walked to the domestic terminal to catch a flight to Lombok for our kitesurfing trip.
It took about 15 minutes per person to get the Lion Air boarding pass and to book our baggage on. They only accept cash for the excess baggage, which cost more than the flight. Lion Air directed us to the Wings Air counter, it turns out they are the same airline.
My luggage ..read more

Session 6. Launched off the beach next to the harbour breakwater pier. There were some good swells rolling through. Up on the foil going into the wind (northerly) then touching down when going down wind.
There was some surface chop that made planing a bit tricky.
Getting the hang of this.
Great session, but a bit chilly ..read more

Session 5. I took the Fliteboard out after catching some nice waves on my SUP at Walkerville South.
The beach is good to launch from. There is a good sandy bottom.
There was a decent swell rolling in which added excitement.
I kept well away for the surfers and got the feel for riding the swell, it adds a new dynamic to the experience.
I was able to stay up on the foil for 20+ seconds and crank out some turns. It was fun ..read more

Best Fliteboard session so far.
Flat water and very little wind made it very cruisy. I launched at Walkerville North and cruised up into Walkerville South and out to Bird Rock.
I was cruising most of the time on power setting 6 and was able to stay on the foil. Lots of carved turns and no crashes.
This was definitely a magic carpet ride.
Getting back to shore at Walkerville North is tricky - there is a very narrow corridor of sand near the ramp to beach. I bumped into some reef with the foil - next time I will invert it when coming in ..read more

Last day of the trip. After breakfast we packed up camp on Mackay Cay then had did some great snorkelling on the reefs there. These are some of the best corals I have seen on the Great Barrier Reef.
There was light wind so the trip back was fast and smooth. Approaching Snapper Island there was a whale and it calf swimming through between the island and the shore.
Snapper Island is a lovely spot for a short break.
We got back to Port Douglas in good time, everyone very happy with the trip.
This is one of the best kitesurfing adventures I have done. Brett and Vanessa's local knowledge of t ..read more
