Bring together a Polish super-producer, a cancer survivor and a classical pianist, then let them create powerful trip-hop melodies – this is Massive Cranes. The project began in the early 2000s when Adam Ostrowski and Dan Thurlow started making music together. Skip ahead to 2021, Thurlow was diagnosed with cancer and a few years earlier Ostrowski experienced the same thing; it was then that Massive Cranes became a thing. We speak to vocalist Dan Thurlow about the band’s new album Monuments, social media and AI, upcoming plans and much more. OSR: Cliché but what made you decide to become a musi ..read more

Midnight Snowball Fight – Dot Dot Dot (2024)
The Other Side Reviews
by Nicole Mendes
20h ago
The younger brother of The Strokes with Two Door Cinema Club as their best friend, Midnight Snowball Fight has been described as “literally the shit” (by a guy from one of their gigs), and “…battle of the bands material” by one of the performing bands. Similar to stuffing an inflatable boat back into its wrapper while inflated, Midnight Snowball Fight bring a punch of indie-rock that is nearly impossible to ignore. A bubbling combination of Sam Baker’s forceful drums, Alex Mears’ bold bass, Tom Castle’s powerful guitar and Devon Cogan’s rich vocals, the US-based group enchant you with a cheeky ..read more

Most well-known as the lead singer of the rock band MOSH, Pedro Lima has experienced the music industry in all its glory. Between 2004 and 2007, MOSH became a sensation in Portugal’s underground rock scene. They supported artists like Marilyn Manson and played the main stage of the Vilar de Mouros Festival in 2005. In 2007, MOSH was nominated for ‘Best New Act’ by MTV with their music video being shown frequently on MTV Portugal. While the band gained great popularity in Portugal and beyond, they are a memory now having disbanded in 2010. The band may be gone, but Pedro Lima (also known as Pet ..read more

For over 25 years, singer-songwriter Rob Prince has been observing life, capturing stories and sharing life experiences in his moving melodies. Sauntering through various genres, Prince’s music flits from indie-pop and folk to pop and indie-rock. We speak with the UK-based musician about his EP Reflections, what music means to him, feeling old and upcoming plans. OSR: A rather cliché question but what drew you to music? Prince: I was really, really getting into music about 12/13 and my older brother came back from uni with an old guitar he’d traded with someone. I don’t think I’d really seen a ..read more

Twenty One Pilots – Overcompensate
The Other Side Reviews
by Christopher Raley

After nearly a decade and three studio albums, Twenty One Pilots brings the Blurryface saga to an end. The upcoming final album, Clancy, will drop on May 17 (nine years to the day after the release of Blurryface). Their first single, ‘Overcompensate,’ is out now on pretty much every streaming platform anywhere. ‘Overcompensate’ opens with distorted spoken lines in German, French, and Spanish that lead to a dance beat under the phrase “Welcome back to Trench” – the fictional content on which the saga plays out. After more singing that remains in the background, the tempo suddenly makes a jagged ..read more

Northern Hospitality – Lust for Living (2024)
The Other Side Reviews
by Christopher Raley

Northern Hospitality, a rock band playing under the influence of punk, is based in Hartlepool in the UK. They formed in 2023 with frontman and guitarist Gaz Price, lead guitarist Sean McCloskey, bassist Nico Mouissie, and Georgia Smith on drums. ‘Lust for Living’ is their fourth single and the first of 2024. It carries on the band’s penchant for anthem rock numbers and cool guitar breaks “completely unleashed with malicious intent,” as they describe their sound. For the record, we don’t think they’re all that malicious but are inclined to agree with how they describe this single as “a tour de ..read more
