Raise your hand if your partner also asked you why you spent so much money at Sephora recently. *Lowers head in embarrassment* Just me? I know it can’t be just me. A colleague actually shared a funny tidbit that her sister told her husband Sephora is a pharmacy and he didn’t ask why she was spending money there again. LOL A few years ago my Sephora order was much more random and paired down. But now I take the VIB sale opportunity to buy my most favorite everyday Sephora hair products. (If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know I take my hair care very seriously.) It may be expensive ..read more

Los Angeles has held a lot of things that I wasn’t aware were waiting for me. Perhaps the most prominent in my day-to-day life is now estate sales. Yes you heard that right, my moved to LA helped me uncover a love of shopping secondhand in other peoples’ homes. It began with a fascination of TikTok videos watching other people share their estate sale hauls, which then inspired me out to start exploring on my own. I’ve been hunting estate sale for two years and have managed to decorate our home with many vintage find, as well as re-sell and make a very small profit. But it’s not really about t ..read more

OH MY just hit my Cali-versary Here’s to 4 years of two cities, a pandemic, many travels, more wine tastings than I thought possible, star sightings, and new friends. And in a long overdue life update, a DOG as well as a HOUSE…and so much more. When Steve took a job out West, we of course had no idea what our time there would hold. I was still working and living in Chicago. I visited him a few times and did allll of the tourist things + got used to the fact I’d be a Californian soon. Once moving there, we couldn’t have been more fortunate to land in the city during COVID thanks to their safe ..read more

Modernism Week in Palm Springs

In February, I attended my first (hopefully not my last) Modernism Week in Palm Springs. This annual 11-day festival features more than 350 events including the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale and tours of homes. Talk about iconic ! I took so many snaps of what to emulate in our home. I’m definitely inspired to hit up more midcentury modern estate sales, but I’m still not sure I’m sold on shag. What about you? Our Modernism Week tour was a happy coincidence with a trip to Palm Springs we already had planned. Steve’s parents scheduled a visit out West to see us, and we chose Palm Sprin ..read more

Streaming Shows for Quarantine

Almost a year later, I’m back with another post of streaming shows to watch. Who would think we’d still be here in March 2021, sitting on our couches trying to find something to watch? I remember when a colleague asked me if anything like this had ever happened before I compared it to the swine flu – which 4/6 of my college roommates came down with and the country health department called each one of us to do contact tracing. But the most that did was keep us from out for a few nights. Despite this being an “unprecedented time,” if finding new streaming shows to watch is the biggest commitmen ..read more

Fall Transitional Outfits

Outfit Ideas to Transition from Summer to Fall It’s that time of the year when we all want to pull out our sweaters and booties but Mother Nature has other plans. For me it’s a feeling left over from when I attended school. I remember back to school shopping, browsing all of the racks full of the cutest fall fashions, and then waiting impatiently until it was finally cool enough that you could comfortable wear your new duds in an un-air conditioned classroom. In San Francisco, it feels like we’re almost always on the boarder of summer-fall transition, so I’m having more practice with transit ..read more

At Home With Shein

In California, as we continue our work from home (through mid-summer, at least), clothes of comfort have become all the more important to me. I am definitely gravitating towards anything without a tight waist band and looking for all of the stretchy pants! For dresses, the longer the better to lounge in (even if it looks like a house dress, because it is). I got to partner with SheIn again to choose some of the clothes that are a perfect fit for what I wanted to add to my closet. These were all given care of, but I actually did my own shopping there as well for the rest of the items I saw on ..read more

Hey All You Cool Cats…

On the last night Steve and I finished the Netflix document “Tiger King,” I happened to be wearing leopard print pajamas. I didn’t even put it together until my husband secretly recorded me and posted an Instagram Story about living with Carole Baskin. It was funny, and even funnier when I shared it and someone commented “You’d make a good Carole Baskin!” Thanks…I think? After Tiger King came out, it was easy to spot anyone impersonating Carole on social media thanks to their flower crowns and leopard print. I’m a part of a Rent the Runway Facebook group and someone asked, “Is Carole Baskin g ..read more

Learning physical distancing

I think we can all agree the last few weeks have been weird. When I first heard about COVID-19 and China’s restrictions on people leaving their homes, I thought the rules were just an output of their strict government. But, as we learned about and were affected by the virus more in the U.S., we (or most of us) understood why physical distancing was needed to not overwhelm the healthcare systems and help treat the pandemic. I think it took until governments started making local orders that people took it seriously. At least, for me knowing that the NBA and universities wouldn’t just shut down w ..read more

In my last post I mentioned that despite my desire to live a more sustainable lifestyle, I’m not perfect. And I’m not trying to be perfect either – that would just be no fun! So while one of my other lifestyle choices has been to rent clothes instead of buy new, there are times when I want to own that cute wedding guest dress or a pair of jeans I’ll be wearing weekly. Of course, there are a lot of retail companies I can support that align with being eco-friendly. In fact, my favorite announced new goals to accelerate sustainable product offerings (I have the Banana Republic credit card so I us ..read more
