9 years ago today on October 25, 2014, I published my first ever blog post & established the creation of BITD. Image by Arielle Lewis Studios created utilizing AI Dress: Poppy Angeloff Pin necklace: Traveling like a Broad Vintage Every year I like to celebrate this anniversary milestone, as creating this space is something that has changed my life in wonderful ways. It’s no surprise I love cats, so when I was thinking up a concept, the idea of cats 9 lives stuck. Like a cat, in these 9 years I’ve had to be dexterous and agile - evolving with the constant change in environments of this soc ..read more

Florence in a Carry-On
Blonde in the District Blog

In February I made a last minute decision to travel to Florence, Italy with my Aunt Pam and in a fit of anxiety about lost luggage, I managed to fit 4 days worth of outfits in a carry-on luggage. Sound wild? I know. I almost can't even believe it myself, ha! As someone who is an avid over-packer, I'm still boasting to my husband (who was a non-believer) that I was actually able to conquer such a feat. I will say, I was mostly able to do so out of a fear of lost luggage after seeing all the madness on overseas flights a few months back. I'd heard it was better, but I wasn't willing to take the ..read more

A few weeks ago I attended a special preview of 'One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection' in honor of the celebrated artists 94th birthday. This was my third visit to see the incredible exhibit and was just as amazing as ever. On Kusama's birthday, the Hirshhorn announced the extension of 'One with Eternity' through July 16 of this year. If you haven't been yet, this is now the perfect time to be fully immersed in Kusama's infinite world. The exhibit includes two Infinity Mirror Rooms - "Phalli's Field" (my personal favorite and a permanent work at the Hirshhorn) and "My H ..read more

New Year, Same Me
Blonde in the District Blog

To kick things off in January for the new year, I decided to share old creatives on social media with the theme “New Year, Same Me” as a way to go against the typical messaging promoted every January: ‘new year, new me.’ While it *is* important to evolve and grow as individuals, it is also important to look back at things you accomplished or created that you are proud of. I find it a great source of inspiration as it encourages us to tap into past feelings & ideas that made us grow, succeed, or taught us something about ourselves I personally have found tapping into WHO we are is the most ..read more

3 Gift Ideas from Wild Gardenia Boutique
Blonde in the District Blog

Over the summer I learned of Wild Gardenia Boutique- a woman-owned online shop based in the DC area. I actually worked with Wild Gardenia Boutique initially as a model for their fall collection and I loved the items and the owner, Natalie Zink's, passion to provide size inclusive items. This is rare for many shops, especially in the DC area. I have been following Wild Gardenia Boutique since first being introduced to the brand and I admire the thought that Natalie puts into curating the collections, focused on indie designers. In the spirit of shopping local and women-owned, I have selected 3 ..read more

Chicago at The National Theatre

"A story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery - all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts..." Ok, ok - if you are familiar with the musical Chicago, then you know what that references! Last night I attended opening night of Chicago at The National Theatre and had so much fun I wanted to share the details! Chicago is celebrating 25 years and is currently on tour throughout the US. I can still remember when Chicago was brand new in the 90's - I was in middle school and learned of the musical when my chorus class sang 'Razzle Dazzle' for a conc ..read more

When creativity calls… ANSWER. 8 years ago, creativity called & I started Blonde in the District. Every year for my blog anniversary I always like to publish a creative post to celebrate. This year, for year 8, one word came to mind as it is emcompasses what I do *and* rhymes with the number 8. CREATE. One of the questions I get most is “how did you start BITD?” my answer is ‘… I just started.’ I had the urge and the creativity call and I just went with it. I published my blog with one blog post and a handful of images. I didn’t have an idea of where it would take me. I didn’t know much a ..read more

Lush fall leaves turning to the most beautiful burnt orange and burgundy colors, crisp air, and art… (yes, art), are all things you can expect to find in the Town of Upper Marlboro, MD. Last week I visited the Town of Upper Marlboro in Prince George’s County to attend the 2022 Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) and I experienced all of these things making for a perfect fall afternoon. Last week, WIHS took place just outside of the Town of Upper Marlboro at The Show Place Arena, which puts Prince George’s County on the map to not only encourage tourism, but generates jobs and drives bu ..read more

toot toot - beep beep! Last month I had the fun opportunity to test drive a @MINIUSA Countryman in partnership with Passport MINI of Alexandria and let me tell you…. It was SO fun to drive! I’ve been previously familiar with MINI’s as my Aunt had one and I remember how much she loved it. In fact, anyone I’ve talked to that has owned a MINI has LOVED them! I’ve always thought MINI’s are so cute and I must admit… I’ve been thinking of the MINI I test drove from Passport MINI of Alexandria every day since I dropped it off! It was such a treat driving the MINI Countryman around Old Town ALX and DC ..read more
