WEDNESDAY July 24, 2024: A beautiful sunny day in Strasbourg, Alsace, eastern France. The architectural tour, done. Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the gems of Western Christendom. The quaint canals that meander between the chocolate box cottages and impressive aristocratic mansions also deserve mention – a picture of charm and civility. Early lunch beckons in […] The post Strasbourg holiday diary: Into the belly of the beast appeared first on The Conservative Woman ..read more

THE EXIT polls in France showing Marine Le Pen heading for victory in the highest turn-out since 1988 raise this question. In February 2016 David Cameron announced his intention to give the British people the opportunity to vote for Brexit in the firm belief that the sensible silent majority would vote it down. He had […] The post Has Macron done a Cameron? appeared first on The Conservative Woman ..read more

Europe’s so-called hard right are happy to take the Establishment’s money

‘SIX lame ducks and a swan’ was, thanks to the Frankfurter Allgemeine last Thursday, the best headline to describe the G7 summit which included babbling Joe Biden, alleged President of the USA, soon-to-be-sacked Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and third-rate German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The ‘swan’ referred to was of course Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the only […] The post Europe’s so-called hard right are happy to take the Establishment’s money appeared first on The Conservative Woman ..read more

Our law is a territorial law, operative within borders which define the nature and extent of its jurisdiction . . . it is because we live under a territorial jurisdiction that democracy is possible – Sir Roger Scruton ‘THIS IS not a good day for those who would defend Europe,’ said the French President as he […] The post Why we need borders – and must quit the ECHR appeared first on The Conservative Woman ..read more

Fascists, fascists everywhere in the EU’s woke imagination
The Conservative Woman » Brexit Watch

‘THIS machine kills fascists’, American folk musician Woody Guthrie scrawled on his guitar during the Second World War. ‘Killing fascists’ was something of a national, even international, pastime in the 1930s and 40s, for reasons we are all very familiar with. What is more than alarming is that the activity appears to be making a worrying comeback in the 21st century. It’s important to begin here by defining our terms. ‘Fascist’, for a coterie of overly influential media hacks and campaigners, is understood as anyone who thinks that borders might be worth keeping, climate change politics ..read more

Ooh, missus! Brussels gets to the bottom of hate speech

THE European Commission is considering proposals to implement a public awareness campaign about the dangers of so-called ‘hate speech’ which will involve stamping ‘anti-hatred’ messages on everyday consumer items, including toilet paper. The proposal is part of a raft of measures drawn up by the European Citizens’ Panel on Tackling Hatred in Society, which is advocating greater EU controls across the bloc to prevent the spread of all forms of what it terms ‘hate speech’. What might such a campaign look like on the ground? It should be ‘catchy and humorous . . . to really reach and ch ..read more

Dolan’s Digest: Starmer and the stealth campaign to cancel Brexit

WHEN Rishi Sunak stood outside Downing Street last week in the pouring rain, to the backdrop of a New Labour anthem blaring down Whitehall, it felt that the decision to go to the polls may have been rushed. Indeed, rumours of a ‘snap’ General Election were not even being discussed in hushed tones in the days preceding the announcement; instead a frenzied social media onslaught of the nation’s commentariat on the Wednesday morning was the first the majority had heard of it. Outside the upper echelons of the establishment, the prospect of a July vote seemed far-fetched. Despite this, we are ..read more
