Prices for some of your favorite things are going up. The big question is how long the price hikes will last. Consumer prices rose 0.6% in March, according to the Labor Department — the sharpest increase in nearly nine years. Over the last 12 months, the department's consumer price index has risen 2.6%. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, inflation was 0.3% in March and 1.6% over the last year. The March price increase is somewhat exaggerated by the point of comparison. Police Officer William "Billy" Evans on Tuesday will lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol, where he served for 18 years and lost his life in the line of duty earlier this month. Evans was killed on April 2, when a driver rammed his vehicle into the north barricade of the Capitol complex, slamming into Evans and another officer before crashing into a barrier. The suspect in the incident — the second attack on the Capitol this year — was 25-year-old Noah Green, who was shot by at least one officer and who later died.
