Do any mythologies have a flying equivalent to a Leviathan?

I know that many mythologies have huge sea and land beasts, and I believe Judeo-Christian mythology specifically has the Leviathan and the Behemoth. Do any have a giant sky creature? The closest thing I can think up is a Thunderbird in Native American mythology, but that doesn't seem exactly the same. submitted by /u/MichaelJospeh [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mythologies Around Whiskey and or other spirits? (Read Description)

Hey yall! I work at a whiskey distillery and we’re trying to amp up the decorations in our current tasting room. It’s my job to research some possible options, and I’ve been told to focus on things that could be educational for those visiting. I’ve always been a huge fan of world mythologies and I know I’m not alone in that, so I was thinking of suggesting something that highlights a particular story in mythology which relates to distillation. My google searches proved to be a dead end so I thought I’d ask here. Realistically I understand it’s unlikely that there are stories about whiskey spe ..read more

I was wondering if anyone can tell me or direct me to information about the Dragons; Erenkyl from Yakut mythology, Tanin'iver from Kabbalistic writings, or Yalpaghan Khan from Turkish mythology. I just can't seem to find information on them anywhere submitted by /u/Dragon1202070 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

A friend and I were going back and forth about the Medusa myth last night so I'm taking the debate to Reddit for the final say. We all know the myth, Medusa can turn anyone to stone because of how hideous her snakey head is. BUT, what are the specifics, do we think? Does Medusa turn people to stone by: 1) Looking at them, 2) Being looked at, 3) Either/or, 4) Making eye contact It's silly semantics but I want to know everyone's opinions. I'm of the school of thought that either/or will do it, but my friend believes they have to make eye contact with her (or at least they have to look at her fa ..read more

Hi guys! I'm fifteen years old and I've always loved history, this is a subject that really captivates me. Currently, I'm very focused on mythology, especially Greek, in all aspects, and I would really like to start studying it in more depth. I'm Brazilian (forgive me for any mistakes in English), but any book, regardless of language, would be interesting for me Thanks :) submitted by /u/tomorrownevercane [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
