NPP control room alarm sounds

What various types of alarms are there in a nuclear power plant control room? Is there a different sounding alarms for different type of critical emergencies throughout the plant such as low coolant or high temperature alarms? I would think there would be various alarms like aircraft have depending on the situation. Are the recordings available? Is that something the public can hear? Is it a general industry style alarm? Thanks everyone. submitted by /u/NinaStone_IT [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

"If we develop appropriate energy storage technology, we can rely totally on renewables and won't need nuclear anymore."- what do you think of this claim?

I was talking to a friend today and he asked me why we need nuclear at all instead of just going for solar and wind. I cited some problems with solar and wind which were mainly- Depends on weather and time of year Needs a lot of open space In response he said, "so why don't we spend resources to develop energy storage technology instead of billions of dollars and decades in time to build nuclear powerplants? "With proper energy storage technology, we will be able to store energy produced when the weather/time of year is favorable and use it in less favorable times, thereby solving the first ..read more

As real-world economics show that renewables beat nuclear by far in terms of newly-installed capacity and project cost, what would even be an incentive for investors to bet their money on nuclear?

Just look at the global amount of RES capacity installed vs nuclear capacity installed. Also in China, proving it's not about exaggerated overregulation of nuclear in Western countries. On the other hand, project costs and duration of new NPPs explode (see EDF's general nuclear strategy and especially Hinkley Point), whilst RES are quickly and cheaply installed. Eventually - also interesting for investors - RES eat into NPPs' baseload generation, rendering the nuclear business model uneconomic at that point. So, why would investors even bet their money on new NPPs? Please limit the discussion ..read more

https://executives4nuclear.com/declaration/ Could it be that the very long project times of new NPPs keep their fossil business model alive for so much longer than a switch to renewables would? submitted by /u/RadioFacepalm [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is superdeep boreholes (like 5km) a better way to dispose of nuclear waste than the deep geological repository that Finland Will use?

Is there any way to guarantee that those capsules Will actually Hold for 100k years. Deep boreholes would have solid bedrock above it to prevent radiation from reaching the ground water submitted by /u/ExpensivePiece7560 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
