I’m sure there are about 12 million posts about this so my apologies in advance. I want to get into I&C and eventually want to work at a nuclear power plant. After I get my associates degree I want to do outage work for bhi energy, day and Zimmerman or one of the contractors. Problem is I have gone on their websites and have no clue where to start, the websites are kind of confusing. Could just be me though. So how would I go about getting into contract work, and would it give me the competitive edge for a permanent job at a plant? Also the closest plant to me is cooper nuclear station, d ..read more

To start off with, I'm sharp but not extremely smart. I'm looking for a career thats more blue collared that I can eventually transition into white collar as I get older. I've always thought nuclear was neat since I was a kid, and i'd like to start in this career if it makes sense for my future. I've also been working with my family restaurant for 4 years and considered one of the most hardworking employees with good leadership and quick thinking skills, if that means anything on a future resume. I'm also pretty good with everything on computers and learn pretty quickly on them. If I have to ..read more

Ok, I’m sure this isn’t the typical kind of post for this group and I know this is a long shot but this is my jumping off point… My dad worked for hydro in the early to mid-80’s as an electrician with the IBEW at Douglas Point, in Tiverton, Ontario. A man that he knew from work (I’m not sure if he was a local or a traveller, FT or contract) painted the above picture for him. My dad has since passed on and this painting is one of the things that was passed down to me. It always hung in my dad’s office, since I can remember and it gives me such warm, fuzzy feelings from back in the day. I know ..read more

Also would candu reactors be cheaper to operate since heavy water is more expensive?(well i think it is) the thing that migh balance that out is the cheaper fuel. submitted by /u/ExpensivePiece7560 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Saw this in 'The Cult of the Atom' by Daniel Ford, 1982 (a book criticizing the lack of nuclear safety regulation, Three-Mile Island happened 3 years prior) and audibly laughed so hard I got a look from someone else at the library. submitted by /u/Stunning-Gene-8280 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

like if us ordered like 40-50 ap1000s. how many could be built every year since reactor pressure vessels would be a bottleneck? and also, would it take a long time to increase production capacity of the pressure vessels if america was commited to a nuclear revival as quickly as possible? submitted by /u/ExpensivePiece7560 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
