Pads non wetting post PCBA

I am using PCBs produced and assembled by the manufacturer that shall not be named. To save time, I typically choose not to deliver some of the more rare connectors to the far east and solder them by hand after receiving the PCBs. However, one thing I noticed is that unpopulated pads post PCBA are super hard to solder to. The chances of solder wetting them is 50/50, and if the solder is not sticking - it’s not sticking for good even with copious amounts of flux. I am 99% sure it’s the PCBA process that is impacting the solderability, as the PCBs from the same manufacturer that do not go throu ..read more

Resources for a PCB inspired personal logo?

Delete if not allowed ? I am looking to get a logo made to use on contact cards, LinkedIn, etc. Finding someone to do this has been almost impossible. Turns out the vast majority of people and AI aren't familiar with what traces and vias look like. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. submitted by /u/Jon3dDesign [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Design Review of my first, ultra simple, ESP32-S3-WROOM-2 dev board schematic

Hi guys, I am completely new in the field of PCB design but I am determined to get to understand how to do everything! Therefore I thought just creating an ESP32 dev board myself would be a good first start. Before getting into all the fun and intricacies of the pcb layout though, I thought it was a good idea to ask you guys if you see any obvious mistakes or no-goes. I chose to use a USB-C connector with USBLC6 for ESD guarding, an AMS1117 for the power supply and some very basic other components. I did not find one solid source though as to how I should design this, so I gathered inform ..read more

[Design Review Request] - Battery powered ESP32 Mini for BLE Application

Hey! I always wanted to design my own circuit board and now I have done it. I'm basically building a dead man's switch using Bluetooth Low Energy. I am using an ESP32 mini IC and a MCP73871T-2CCI/ML IC to charge a Li-Ion cell. I also added a buzzer and a vibration motor. I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at this and see if I have made any (common) mistakes. I read here that the auto router is not that good, but I tried it by hand and it was probably worse. So I used it. I hope you can give me some feedback. Thank you very much! (I hope I added all the files needed) Ima ..read more

Best four layer stackups for audio signals ?

I'm designing an audio extension board for my Raspberry-Pi, based on different components (PCM5252 mostly + reference schematic basically). The idea is to use the internal PLL of the DAC to generate a MCLK for I2S signals, which it was more stable than the MCLK of the RPi by itself. Thus, I have pretty high speed signals (Something like 19.2 MHz will be output on a pin). On other pins, I have the data pins, which are also going fast (up to 2 * 32 * 384 000 = 24.576 MHz) and so... I think that I'm going to route these traces at 50 Ohm characteristic (designed, not checked by the manufacturer ..read more

[Review Request] - Data Acquisition Board

I need to capture signals in the 10pA-10nA range and have designed a test board based around the MAX11046. The design is primarily referenced from the MAX11046EVKIT and was customized to suit my needs; a complete review or any helpful tips would be much appreciated. SCHEMATIC: [PAGE 0] [PAGE 1] [PAGE 2] [PAGE 6] NOTE: I have only included 'input-block-1' because all input blocks are identical. The 'rf-shields' page was also ignored because it solely contains the clips of the shields. STACKUP: SIGNAL + GND ADC_RDC + GND GND +2V5 -2V5 3V3, 5V + GND It would probably be better to have more ..read more

How can I make a complex shaped PCB?

Hey all! I am trying to revisit a project in which I somewhat failed at a point and then gave up because of the time commitment. Let me show you the MESS of wires it had produced. As you can see, wires galore. After delving into PCB design, and I will show you my first one in a second because it was for a school project, I wanted to revisit this project and design a PCB for the inside of the grip. This is where I want the PCB to go. For the PCB, I plan on just having some non solder connections (to the board, like JST) so that If i need to replace a part, its VERY simple. Along with this ..read more
