Two new EBooks have been added to the Dreamtimesail - Our Galley book store. These books are for those intending on leaving Australia via boat and or entering Indonesia via boat.  Yes, that mundane yet unavoidable aspect of life. No matter how liberated we feel, envisioning ourselves sailing into the the sunset to far away horizons towards enchanting destinations, someone, somewhere, requires all our particulars. Not only do they need our information, but they present it in such a bewildering manner that you question if you'll ever embark on your voyage. Online forums are flooded with in ..read more

Before reaching Buru, we had studied its history, a customary practice of ours before visiting new destinations. It was surprising to discover that this was actually the “Island of Tabu”, a place that had been off-limits to visitors for years as it served as a location for political prisoners. An island of raw beauty and untold stories, Buru is a testament to the resilience of the Indonesian spirit. It's an emblem of forgotten history and a witness to one of the greatest atrocities of the 20th century.  The third largest island in the Maluku Islands, Indonesia, is situated between the B ..read more

Bakso has become one of my favourite dishes to eat We love street food dishes you can easily make at home, and Bakso is no exception. Bakso has become one of my favourite dishes to eat, even in the steaming hot weather. It is a simple Indonesian dish of meatballs and soup. Like many other dishes in Indonesia, it grew out of Asian and European influences in the country. Throughout Indonesia, there are many variations of bakso, but all of them include three main ingredients: broth, noodles, and meatballs. Find the recipe by following the links to Our Galley ..read more

Our Ten Year Love Affair with a beautiful Canadian Lady of the Sea

Time flies when you are having fun and these words definitely describe the last decade. Today marks the day ten years ago that we took ownership of Our Dreamtime, a Canadian built Whitby42 Ketch that we love even more as time goes by.  Rewinding those 10 years the story goes like this. Karen was in charge of finding suitable boats in our price range and organising appointments with brokers to show us over boats. We had a definite budget, a “must have” features list, a “that would be nice list” and a definite “don’t want” list. However we were open to view any boat in our budget. On t ..read more

It might be one of the most beautiful places we have ever sailed to. We may also never leave. In our latest episode we are stuck fast and we demonstrate how we retrieve our very expensive, sleep easy at night anchor and chain.  Few things can ruin a relaxing stop at your favourite anchorage like a battle to retrieve an anchor that’s stuck on the bottom and won’t come free. So …. What do you do if your boat anchor gets stuck?  You can bring the chain up as far as is possible,“Tail it off” on the cleat, taking a turn around the base and holding taut, don’t cleat it off, using the m ..read more

Once the favourite Dutch colony – for precious spices that grew nowhere else on earth, today, Maluku Region is an attractive travel destination, when it comes to yachting and scuba diving. The archipelago includes thousands of inhabited and uninhabited volcanic islands, small isles and tiny islets. What really stands out though, is the scenery in Central Maluku. The chain of forested mountain islands is fringed by immaculate beaches and secluded bays, turquoise lagoons with overwater bungalows, virgin coral reefs; and all that is concluded with perfectly-shaped volcanoes in the background ..read more

We have been sailing Our Dreamtime now for 10 years. When we purchased her one of the benefits she had was a fully horizontally battened main sail with a Leisure Furl in boom furling system. We have sailed all sorts of main sail systems, your typical slab reef, roll mainsail with in mast furling and in boom systems. Inside the boom cover you can see the sail on its furling drum We watch the faces of sailors when we say we have an in boom furling system, and their faces normally tell the story. Every slab reef sailor knows a horror story about in-mast or in-boom furling that is enoug ..read more

Well this statement definitely describes the Dreamtimesail crew. There is nowhere that we go without a camera in hand. Taking stills and video is what we do. Our everyday life is captured from sailing, baking bread or to hiking to the most gorgeous waterfalls. The lengths we go to sometimes to get “that shot” are a little crazy. Our life is scene through the lens. Making dreams come true, one scene at a time. Sometimes through accident, but normally through detailed planning and camera framing we are able create the feeling of you being brought along on our journey with us. We don’t have ..read more
